It's in his style, but more info. would be needed to make even a half way responsible quick opinion.  Provenance, if any?  Has it been examined by a TPA?  Coming from a trustworthy source?

He's so heavily forged and there have been some bad ones hitting the market recently that are close.

Hi Eddy. Thanks for your answer.  I bought this a long time ago. The company that sold it is still going. They had a large collection of old Hollywood stars this person (consigner) had come in contact with when they worked in the movie industry.  I had read that James Dean often signed  items with green ink.   All my best was often written before the signature.  I thought maybe someone clipped out the name of the person he wrote it for.

I appreciate your input.  Thanks again

If authentic, just another chop job with no history or meaning left.  :-(

Hi Eric. You are so right.  It’s nice to know the back story on an autograph.  Thanks for your comment.

I wonder if that inscription needlessly cut in half vertically is meant to inspire good feelings. Something seems off.  Also, poor scan when enlarged.

If it's not real, it's better than much of what is out there.  Still, need to be very careful with Dean. Is this fountain pen?  I'm not sure green ink is a flag either way.  Dean signed with fountain pen but also early ballpoint (often that vintage blue that now looks more blackened with age).

I've had the privilege of handling five Dean pieces over the years.  One turned out to be a forgery but the rest were real.....including a check made out to himself and endorsed by him from his struggling NYC days.

If it is real, it still would desirable but rather less so because of the trimming.

That's not real IMO, sorry.

Hi Steve

Thanks so much for your input.  I appreciate you taking the time to respond.

I dug through my exemplar file.  This is the one that I was reminded of when I saw your OP:
