I have seen many thru the years.  How common were these and what was the premise for them TTM or in person?  Thoughts on this one?

TTM as far as I know. There are fakes out there as well especially the 3x5 size. This looks like it might be 8.5x11 inches? I looks ok to me.

I have a TTM one I got from him.  (I don't have it handy to post a picture).

Not sure on yours - would need to compare and scrutinize a few elements.

Years ago some jerk listed 100 of these sketches on index cards on Ebay, as if JS would ever have drawn that many for someone.

These can be a real minefield. There are a few key indicators you can identify if you look at enough of them.

The signature looks right to me BUT I had some interesting experience with a Harvey Sketch I purchased in 2007-2008 from RRAuction, which is a very reputable company. The Harvey sketch and signature looked very much like it should to me so I had NO question in my mind, at the time, that it was authentic. Years later (I think 2011) RRAuction contacts me informing me that the Harvey sketch I purchased was likely a forgery. They immediately refunded my money and apologized for the mistake and mentioned how rare it is that this happens. They mentioned the consigner had consigned several similar Harvey sketches every month and they grew suspicious (too many Harvey sketches and nothing else from them) so they investigated it and discovered the consigner was likely forging these. Interesting it was their speciality. Guess they got very good at it because the Harvey sketches they sold looked flawless to me.

Great story! Good for RR.

Thar shows you how dangerous these can be.
