Anybody have enough experience with Jim Croce to tell me if this is legit?

close but I don't think its authentic

Thanks, Terrier. I've seen a number of similar versions over the years and know that his signature evolved over time. Hoping Roger Epperson will weigh in on this as well.

I've been looking for a Croce signature for years. there just are not many authentic versions out there.  This one just seems a little shaky.

Me, too. One of my heroes growing up. Along the way have encountered outright forgeries (the seller eventually went to the penitentiary) and a guy purportedly selling Croce's handwritten lyrics for "Time in a Bottle". Finally got Ingrid Croce involved to validate the documents and shut the seller down.

They're really hard to find. That said, this was authenticated (it's in my garage looking for a home. I inherited from my Dad):

I've only seen a few other of his and they all had the same word before his signature.

who authenticated it?

I have to grab the name when I get home. My Dad was staying at the Venetian in Las Vegas. They have a memorabilia store in the Casino (I can't remember the name but I believe it's a chain) and he purchased it there.  I had a letter of certification as well that's been lost in the shuffle.

Oh oh , Vegas.  The signed albums J and C both look a bit shakey. You can keep the dime.

What do you think the best way to have it authenticated is?

Hey Ian.

I appreciate your comment of concern regarding verification of Autographs in Las Vegas. I purchased a Jim Croce autograph verified from a Vegas authenticate/autograph dealer. The signature looks quite similar to the example at the top of this trend.

in your opinion, did the signature of Jim Croce change so dramatically from the current example on eBay    ( matching the signature on the autograph series Martin guitar ) to the example above which is more fluid and expected for an artist of Croce’s prominence?

Oh boy, this is from 5 years ago. I'm not a big Jim Croce specialist but Roger Epperson also commented after me and he didn't like the signature either. I'm sorry I haven't looked at him on ebay so cant really comment. You might want to seek Rogers opinion.

I have one.  It's one of the few autographs in my collection whose provenance is indisputable because he gave it to me himself.  I was a teenager and my mother took me and my brother to hear him sing.  He was opening for Woody Allen believe it or not, in suburban Chicago.  After the concert she told the bouncer that her name was Marie Croce, which wasn't that big a lie because Croce was her grandmother's maiden name, and that she wanted to say hi to Jim.  The guy led us to his dressing room and we spent a half hour with him.  A helluva nice guy.  Before leaving, he signed my program and so did Marty, his guitarist, who also died in the crash....  I always regretted that I didn't get Woody Allen's, too.   I would consider selling or trading it, but only if someone made me an offer I couldn't refuse....
