I'm thinking about buying one. I'm sure you've noticed that there are many authentic DiMaggio signed balls out there that were signed with a blue felt tip pen. Did Joe D. like to use a blue felt-tip sometimes? And are those generally more or less desirable than a regular ball-point pen? Or is it better to just stick with ones signed in ball-point? Any thoughts?

James, I think it comes down to personal preference and price. I believe the felt tip signatures might be a bit less expensive and some of them are very nice. I just saw a beautiful Ted Williams signed in blue sharpie for 200, and it is one of the nicest Williams signed balls I have ever seen.

From a resale standpoint, an ink-signed (preferably blue) would command a higher price typically, than felt tip.

You can get very nice Joe D balls for around 300 or so.
