Just recently joined this great site after being a long time visitor and hate to start off with a controversial observation.

There has been widespread UK media coverage of Julien's Live auction (Nov 4th 2017) - a set of handwritten lyrics purporting to be written by David Bowie as a work in progress for "Starman" and authenticated by Perry Cox. As a 40 year collector of Bowie autographs which includes some handwritten letters, this in my opinion is NOT genuine.

Its far too neat for starters and whilst it has some of his traits, is inconsistent particularly towards the end when the person who wrote these lyrics flows back to their "not trying" hand style, it is a poor attempt copy of the original which appeared at the Bowie Is exhibition (also attached)...

Sadly, this will achieve many, many thousand of dollars based on the genuine Jean Genie handwritten lyrics recent sale.

Other learned Bowie watchers/collectors thoughts welcome.

I would not buy that.

Me neither Erik - some poor unsuspecting person with lots of cash will be though...

Well, they will have one year and they will need to hire two experts they and seller likes...etc. etc...if there is an issue.

Maybe you should write to Perry Cox with your concerns?

real . think they sold for 50k plus if i rembner correctly

LOL John, I just saw "real" on the home page, w/o the image you posted, and was like "what?!" Yes, THOSE are the real deal!

i think if i rember correctky it came from tony visconti, but i new who was selling them and i new who the original consignor was due to my work in the industry and ive had some friends who play in bowie band for years,

juliens lacks alot of knowledge all around ,they specialize is single sale auctions.i find them impossible to deal with as a consignior.just my 2 cents

They are lovely, those lyrics. The earliest example I have from him is a large red 1976 signature from smack in the middle of his experimental signature phase of '75-'77.

1971 bowie hand written acitate

WOW!!!!! Superb! That is yours?

Queen Bitch was one I never expected to see live, but he did it with Lou Reed at his 50th B'day concert. Eight line poem I always loved.

nope .i was involved with a bowie only auction a while ago and these also sold.

i know the history behind them so i know there real.i think final price was around 40k give or take

just trying to post real examples for your examplers. this way if we know its real its a good refrence

Oh I appreciate it John. I have some early exemplars, but this stuff is great. I do not know the 1967-1975 period nearly as well as 1976 and later, so this is very helpful. Thank you.
