There are simpler answers that might suffice. I recall when involved with coins, there were dealers who only bought misgraded material On too many scuffs to be MS65 etc) to sell to newbies at profit. After all, that material had papers that said it was "X" (incorrectly). It was easy to buy this stuff for what is was worth if you had an eye, and buying the right series with the apparent right look would help sales to the unknowing. And very few returns.
Hi again,
I did NOT mean RR has any more errors or "unusual" material or whatever than anyone else. You could carry out the "business model" this seller employs with any certs. Mistakes are made by everyone. This seller may be capitalizing on this. But I would prefer to focus on the signatures. Too much reliance on any papers of any sort is something this seller is counting on. And it works a lot :(
Correction for spelling - "(one too many scuffs to be MS65 etc.)"
Another example of such practices would be to go and start buying certed secretarials from the larger TPG (such as Jackie Gleason, Joan Crawford letters, etc.) and sell them as genuine with the certs saying so. While the Gleason's are now more understood, they are still out there with papers, as are many others.
That cert is R & R Enterprises which of course looks nothing like modern RR Auctions cert.
Maybe you got them mixed up?
Did you get a photo of the Bowie cert?
Most welcome :)
This junk is for sale once again for $729 or BO (I think that means "bogus origins")- with a guarantee to pass PSA/DNA etc. I think this is the 4th time?
I told him I’d gotten a thumbs down from Epperson, and he said, How could he know that based on nothing but a photo? Because, you know, you never can tell if an autograph is fake unless you’re actually holding it in your hands.
With that logic this seller has no excuse.
