just got a foldout post card with rat pack autographs and have questions.

found a foldout postcard from the sands hotel advertising the hotel on one side and the other side advertising the copa room with pictures of frank,dean,sammy and peter lawford. all 4 have signed by their pictures.it says all 4 will be on stage performing and that johnny mathis is coming feb 17 th.there is no date because the card was not mailed.just curious as to age and value if autographs are right and who would be the best place to authenticate. thanks,frank.

The pics are good, Frank, thanks. If the autographs are all genuine (I don't know) your fold-out would probably sell at a good auction for $1,000-2,000, and you would net about 2/3 of what it sells for. RRAuction.com would be a good choice for this. Classic Hollywood is one of their strongest spots.

Well, the signatures aren't facsimile.

I spent quite a while looking at this. My level of familiarity with the autographs goes in this order: Sammy Davis Jr. > Dean Martin > Frank Sinatra > Peter Lawford. I'm not an expert. My feelings amount to a thumbs down. It looks like a pretty good forgery. Perhaps you'll get some other opinions around here.

If the item were authentic, Steve's estimate is very conservative. The rarity of these types of things... it's just outrageous.

thanks for both of your feedback. who would be a reputable person to have this checked by? in reading your magazine seems like there are alot of dlshonest people out there.... given how and what i paid for this i would bet it is right.it was in a box lot that no one checked.i took the card out and sold the rest to a junk lady for $10.

Among the third party general authenticators, JSA and PSA/DNA are the most widely accepted by far. And the most reliable, even though they make their share of mistakes. If you want to be able to sell your postcard yourself easily, they would be the ones I'd go with.

BUT...it will possibly cost you $150 or more to get it authenticated, and this is not an easy to authenticate piece. That's why I think you should go through a good auction house.

I definitely wouldn't spend the authentication fee to send it into PSA or JSA. Kevin Conway deals in these autographs often enough, unfortunately he doesn't seem to post around here anymore like he used to. I remember a lot of people here chimed in on a Frank Sinatra signed item but none of them have posted on this thread.

Honestly I wouldn't believe this item even if it had PSA/JSA authentication tacked onto it, but that's my opinion, and you need the peace of mind of knowing of course.

I agree. We all know how many total debacles they attach their little stickers to.

I mean, just the other day I had a little chat with another member who had a Jordan that he got in person, one of the big two actually rejected it. And again, lets just take a stroll through eBay's Babe Ruth selection. Yes, there are clever fakes everywhere, but virtually every piece of crap available has them co-signing that it's real. We all know they're not- and that's the most studied, recognized and wanted signature in the history of signatures and they've been missing the mark for years.

So, I don't put much stock in either. There are experts in just about every catagory from historical to sports to Hollywood- not to mention sub catagory experts. I'd rather get it right with a real Elvis, Ruth, Presidential, Sinatra specialist than the crowd pleasers who really don't know sht about Elvis, Lincoln, Rodin, etc. It needs to be right for me.

I was telling him that I wouldn't spend the $150-$200+ on authentication for it because I don't think it's real. If it were real, though, I'd still say skip PSA/JSA and sell it through RR because they can sell the hell out of stuff like this.

I agree that each item should be right by the person who buys it. You're always your best authenticator and you're the person you have to convince. That's why it's great when people do their own research and learn the signatures which interest them.

i know zero about autographs and appreciate the help. like i said this was in a box of post cards sent to the lady on the address. some were mailed to her and some not but all were addressed to her. was at her estate sale for something else and while killing time stumbled across the card. not sure i want to sell it but if i did any thoughts on who would do a good job? you mentioned RR. have no idea who they are. on an off subject are wheaties boxes signed by michael jordon worth much? i know he signed these because i was there when he did.forgot i even had this.must have 25 years ago...thanks again,frank.
