I have been offered this item. It sold at Juliens for a large amount so I am assuming its real but psa/dna said its not likely genuine.  It looks good compared to Kurt's writing in his journal writing but its alot to spend to not have experts COA. What do you think?

Sure the lineage would be really great to know but they seem to want to stay anonymous.
Whats the asking price?

I think you hit the nail on the head when you said its very hard to verify Kurt stuff. I wouldn't touch that without better provenance, anyone can make up a story that it "came from an  relative".

And if the below is an original Kurt, I see problems. Not only that I don't like how it says "Nirvana" and "Kurt" feels kind of like something a forger would need to add to make it more attractive. Could it be real? Sure. But I wouldn't touch it with a 10ft pole unless this so called "relative" came forward. There is just wayyyyyy too much incentive to forge Kurt stuff.

Im asking- didnt this sell two times on Julien's? Like very recently?
I think it sold a couple of years ago but didn't meet the reserve so it was relisted this past May. Sold for 12.8k and now to me
For that much money, I would demand to know the relative.

This piece was in featured in Kurt Cobain Journal. I am sure his estate owns this piece of original art. I know it did sell at Julien's auction for about $12.8K. You have to be very careful to know whether this is the original signed piece or an actual copy of the original. The provenance of who it came from is very important. I'm pretty sure Courtney Love and Frances Bean Cobain would not be consigning any Kurt Cobain's art for sale at Julien's.

There is another piece of Kurt Cobain art that is being offer on the bay presently. Just see what the seller has been selling and you know for a fact that what he is selling at $17.5 K is a copy of the original. Here is a picture of what he is selling.

Let's say that the one on Julien that was sold is an original. Please make sure that you are getting the original from the seller that you are dealing with.

Like Adam mentioned, I would demand to know the relative!!

All the best. If I am the owner of this piece. I would not be selling it !!! :)

Thanks for the input. This is the one from Juliens. That I am sure of. I talked to Darren Julien and he said it came from a family friend who wanted to be kept anonymous. If this very piece was in Kurts journals originally, that's pretty good provenance. Can you show me where it is shown as originating from his journals? It's not on lined paper or anything.

I will have to double check but I am pretty sure it was in his book The Journals. The book is at my office. No doubt that this is Kurt Cobain drawing and writing.

Courtney Love authorized the printing of Kurt Cobain Journals and got paid handsomely for it. All the contents in The Journals belongs to the estate of Kurt Cobain. How would a family friend gets his hand on this piece??? The provenance and lineage is very important where this piece came from.

Good luck Ryan !!!!

This Mr Moustache is not on The Journal which is good.

Cool. I emailed the estate manager to see if it's legal to own. Juliens is adamant that it's ok and the estate will definitely not have a problem with it. Wonder who it could be from?

you may want to contact his high  school art teacher who told me he has authenticated kurt art for family members
