Here is a link to an almost identical cheque - signed to the same Hollywood Studio Club at around the time that your cheque was signed. She was living there at the time and finding it hard to meet the rent:

You cannot really compare MM's 1948 signature to her 1961 one. I think yours is OK but maybe the signature is almost not simple enough for '48. With this example you can also compare the way she has written the payee's name.
The one I am showing went for $2,800 in October 2010. No buyers premium applied
If authentic I'd say $2k would be on the cheap side - as it is early and MM has written the amount etc. On the other hand, $2k for a late 50s/60s cheque would be on the high side.
