I don't study Marilyn much but I believe this is the real deal.
I am curious how the condition issues will assert themselves with regard to the early date re closing bid.
I was looking at the tape stain (is the tape present?) to confirm this check was at least partially separated (it was, perhaps 50%, maybe more) maybe by a bank machine as the tape repair is clearly old. I was trying to figure what this condition will do to value. But then I noticed the top and bottom edges of the check have odd digital artifacts. The bottom edge, left of the tape and to the center is unusual in a few spots. The top edge is not straight and dips to the right in a strange way after the tape. I'd want to see a better scan.
excellent points Eric
You have a great eye and attention to details
I would agree to ask for better scans from the seller and more information about the background and condition issues.
It certainly affects value to me, if I were going to bid. I would not put this in the category of over $2K. But that's just my personal judgement as a buyer. The tape has already affected the "Mon" portion of Monroe
I did not mean to address any motive - it could be very poor cropping over an added black background or some such - something does show in enhanced negative - what it is I can't say.
DAMN that's an amazing piece to pair with
With something that rare and valuable, I would think it deserves something of better quality (ie cheque or something else)
congrats on that
