thanks for your input, mike

it costs about $100

yes, it's a page from a magazine

I just took a look at our May 2009 Metallica study by Steve Grad and I wouldn't want to buy either of these without the input of someone respected who really knows Metallica.

Am I the only one who thinks the Ride the Lightning autographs were all signed by the same person? You actually think that album has a chance, Mike?

If I got Mike Aring right, he was the person who got the album signed and now have it for sale.

I'll upload some exemplars and you can let me know what you think.

I will. Thank you Steve.

You opened the reply with "i think this could be good." I thought you meant the Ride the Lightning. I didn't realize you said you got it in person. But it still looks signed in the same hand and not genuine to me...sorry.

He may not have known what was going on with your album mike, but telling steve to just basically stay out of things and run the site, is a statement id be very careful about making and pretty smug, even if he was questioning you. All youd had to have done is reiterate the point that you got it IP, and i think everyone would have trusted you on that. Its pretty obvious we all enjoy this site and like posting on it, and regardless of anything Steve does a hell of a job on here. And if he wants to comment on an item that you got IP, who cares, he has earned that right, as this is his site. You know youd comment on his albums if you thought something wasnt right regardless of his story. This board isnt known for its members being opinion shy.

Mike,

I don't claim to be an expert and I make that clear a lot. But even enthusiasts are entitled to our opinions, aren't we? That's how we learn.

Mike, whether they're signed in the same hand or not, they look quite different than the ones Grad used from the 2000s in the article. Probably 10,000 or more copies of that issue are out there and we didn't get one person disagreeing with any of the autographs.

Here are three scans from our Metallica feature by Steve Grad. Grad got the guitar signed at 2008 Meet and Greet. I'm not sure the circumstances of the second set, which are on a poster, but they're inscribed to Steve and dated 2008 as well:

Here's a Hetfield signed a few years earlier that Steve used in the article but didn't get in person.

So it's easier to compare, here's the album Mike said he got signed in 2008:

Here's our Metallica cover photo, also signed in 2008:
