So. I am new, and know nothing about authentication. The only autographs I have are ones I have acquired directly.
but I am curious about this autograph.
Any chances it it could be real?

I definitely think this is fake! It looks very slowly drawn. The autograph doesn’t have good speed to it, and it just looks off.
I agree with James, definitely not real in my opinion.
So I am looking for a legitimate autograph for my daughter. Is there even any actual hope of finding something of genuine origin at all?
Patience will be a key factor, knowledge aside. Learn to know the prices reached for what type of item... and why.
It's not too hard to find a real Michael Jackson, Ron. You just have to do a little legwork and keep asking questions and getting suggestions. They start at about $600, and most sell for $800-$1,000+.
Another interesting or funny thing about this is the “l” in Michael. It is used as both the “l” and the “J”. The big loop in the middle which is normally what the “l” becomes is actually just artificially and awkwardly thrown in there, and it connects with nothing. The forger didn’t think through this one very well.
Hi James,
I deleted your post about your MJ for sale. Feel free to post a listing in Buy/Sell/Trade, but offers for sale are generally not allowed in regular discussions.
Thanks
Oh okay, Steve. No problem. Is it okay to PM him about it as well?
You can post it with Roger's LOA in the Buy/Sell/Trade. Thanks for asking but no PMs, sorry.
When we give opinions collectors need to know that the possibility of another member hoping to sell to them didn't influence it. If Ron's interested he knows you've got it in the selling group.
That makes complete sense to me. I ask innocently about the PM just because I think I’ve seen other members say, “Just PM me” or “I sent you a PM” in reference to having something for sale. I think I’ve only listed something or somethings for sale once before on AML. And that was like three or four years ago. And I only sell on eBay very occasionally. I’m a collector first and foremost.
I know it's innocent and please feel free to offer as much as you want in our B/S/T group.
The main reason I try prefer members not PM marketing, to new members especially, is that I think it's important to have most things out in the open. That way members can help other members avoid buying or offering questionable autographs.
I gotcha, Steve. I’m totally onboard. I’m sort of new to this part of AML. I had even thought initially of sending him a PM, but then I thought...no that might look kind of shady. That’s why I then posted that link so everyone could see it, trying to be above board.
I completely understand and agree with all your reasoning. And especially with newer members, it might look like I’m trying to ambush him and take advantage of him, and that’s certainly something I wouldn’t do. Thanks for explaining, my friend.
