Dear all,

I am a Queen Fan since i am 12 and was fond of drawing. When i was 17, i did 2 drawings of Freddie Mercury  which a friend recommended me To send To the fan club London. I did not expect To get them back.

I was just in touch with Jacky Smith who just was hired recently To the fan club, she explained To me in a private letter. She did not send me my drawings back at that time.

I think 2 months later, i wrote again To see if Freddie saw my drawings and wanted To have his opinion on it.

And surprisingly, after a week or 2 approximately, i got mail back, opened and had my 2 drawings signed by Freddie!!.  I could not believe it ! I kept them 35 years. I just kept them in a woodden box since he died, cause i could not look at them anymore.

I took them back after the film. And wrote again To the fan club London,  giving photo of my drawings. And surprisingly, i got an answer 3 days later from...Jacky Smith !! Who wrote me she was pleased To see that i kept my 2 drawings...

But now, question  is : is the signature real ?? Some people do not believe. Could you help me on that matter ? I have NO INTENTiON To sale. They are my treasures. I of course see the way he wrote 'Mercury ' is unusual. But To me, it was because he did not want To cross my drawing with his large signature, and showed respect To my work,  maybe as it was a souvenir for him to remember that at 17, like me, he was drawing his idols

A teacher in graphology told me this signature was from a very strong personality. I also noticed he went through the paper a little at the end of 'Mercury'...

Where is the truth ?? Can You tell me ?

Thanks a lot, Christine

Hi Christine.

Others are certainly better with Queen than me, but I have never seen an authentic Freddie autograph that looks like these two. I´m afraid that these 2 might be fan club secretarials.

But wait for others to chime in.

Hi a.b. Thanks a lot for your answer. I left a message longer for both of you who were so kind To reply.

Very sincerely,

Christine

Hi Christine. Unfortunately, these are not signed by the band. These are fan club secretarials. Have a look at this queen secreterial guide I put together recently. The first example I posted there should look familiar.

Thanks a lot both of you for your care and sincere answer. It is of course rude and really sad for me to face the truth as Freddie was my idol and helped me To survive as a teenager...sooo sad. I am nit collectioner. I am a real fan.

But so is life...I tell you how much i am crying cause i kept them for 35 years as treasures. To be honest,  when i was 17, I could not believe these signatures were true but after talking To my teacher learning graphology,  i had the small hope they were true.

And at that time, if i knew the truth, i would have managed To maybe get one signed by Freddie after the 2 concerts i saw in Brussels. (1984 and 1986). Concerts which i had To lie my parents To see, with help of other adults who knew i lived in a prison...yes, these signatures meant much more then a lot To me..no Word To say how much...

Thank you sincerely for your fast answer, and all documents shown. It is really very interesting.  From very deep of my heart, sincerely,

Christine

I'm so sorry to have given you the bad news and I'm sure the same goes for AB. I must assure you that all secreterial signatures are issued by fan clubs with good intentions (to please fans and make them feel included and close to their idols). Queen's definitely went a little off track (as you may have noticed in the link I provided), but I do believe they started off with the same hope all fan clubs do. The important thing is these items kept your chin up when you needed it as a teenager. And the better news is, eventhough Freddie is gone, he was a pretty generous signer and it is still possible to own something he really did touch. If you're ever in the market and want to look for a Queen or Freddie signed item, I'd be happy to help you hunt one down.

All the best
