Once upon a time, I was an autograph hound. Just a general guy who likes them. Not someone who buys and sells.
Over the years, I've gained them in strange ways. In the last 20 years, I've been a performing magician, and if you know the nature of that business, you know that we gain signatures written on Playing Cards--written in Sharpie.
Thus, I have signed cards from:
Arnold Schwarzenegger
Megan Rapinoe
Abby Wambach
Tim Conway
Harvey Koreman
Garrison Keillor
And a bunch of other magicians, including David Blaine.
I also go to the NAMM Show nearly every year. It gets fatiguing.
In the 1990's I wrote a stupid and satirical letter to Mother Teresa--and included a self-addressed envelope. It cam back from Calcutta with the autograph that I have seen verified by others. It is perhaps the only one I have of any real value. I still have a copy of the letter I sent her as well as a newspaper article covering my antics when she passed.
And yet, I don't care about any of it. I only care when I know it might mean something to someone else, and may times I have passed on a gift. Such as a signed softball I gave away with Eddie Feigner--to a kid that was a fan of his.
Then, my daughter goes off the Michael Jackson Turnpike. Now, all bets are off. I don't have thousands to spend, and I certainly don't have the chops to verify something that a dead man can never confirm as his.
But here I will be. Maybe one day, I'll find the right thing--something that can be verified with unmistakably-solid provenance. I want to be THAT dad. I just don't want to buy a fake (as if anyone does)

My best advice to you is to study his vintage sig pre-90s and learn how to spot a real one. There are A TON of fakes and erroneously certed “real” ones to stumble over in your search, but you can spot a real one if you know what to look for.
Without doing the work yourself, you will be forced to rely on stories, 3rd party opinions, and well meaning folks with best intentions that unfortunately and invariably make mistakes, just like everybody else.
Good luck!
Well begun is half done. You found the right site for advice.
Unfortunately, anything cheap is usually fake. Most autographs that are unquestionably real go for 800-900 on up (a low figure, which would likely be on a scrap of paper with flaws such as smudges etc), just so you have an idea of what MJ's go for. If you find one you think is legit, you can shoot it onto the forum here and many of us who only study his autograph - will likely pop in to answer.
