I'm concerned about the loops in his first name crossing.  I don't see many examples of this.  Thoughts?

I don’t like it at all either.  When Ryan was finishing up his career, there were a bunch or forgeries.  Here is my view:  If you were to look at 1,000 signed Nolan Ryan baseballs, how many would look like this one?  If you cannot find any others that look like this, then you know it is most likely a forgery.  If you could say Ryan has a habit of signing like this when he is in a rush, or while he is walking, etc. then that is different and would would be able to point to others that look like this.  Ryan has a very consistent signature, and this is not one of the consistencies in my opinion.

What surprises me is that JSA certed it.  I know they are not the be-all, end-all.  But man, you would think they would get his signature right and be able to weed out this forgery if it is.  I'm not too bummed about it, what bums me out, is that I bought this ball along with a bunch of others (most were certified).  If this is a forgery, how many others are too?

Who knows?

Post the JSA cert.

Thank you for posting it.

Justin the most important thing is if you are comfortable with the signature and the Cert. We are providing opinions but some collectors prefer TPA certification. Sometimes we differ with those opinions as we do in this case. But if you are happy with the signature and you are not selling it then no harm no foul.

As always, thanks for the help!  As a beginner, you all are really helping me learn some ins/outs of this great hobby!  I really appreciate it!

No problem!  My opinion is that it is not a typical Ryan signature but was probably signed while he was walking or something of that nature, however, I believe it is authentic and so does JSA.  That's good enough for me!
