Opinions Sought On Possible Prince Signatures

Hi-Seeking opinions regarding the possible authenticity of three Prince signed pieces. The first is a signed photo with signature in silver ink. Please note, the "P" in this pic appears to be missing the rounded "loop" portion of the letter P that extends to the right but it is, in fact, present (albeit faint). It is a very thin pen stroke that is hard to capture in this image but in person can be seen extending out and over the "r" and "i" in his name.Below is a similar "official" pre-printed example from the "One Nite Alone" 2002 concert programme that closely resembles Pic #1 (above). The second pic (Prince_Sig_2), also a photo, signed in black ink. Below is a vintage signature on Warner Bros stationary that resembles the signing style in pic #2 (above). Finally, the third (Prince_Sig_3) is a signed Rolling Stone Magazine cover, dated October 1990.I'm a huge fan but despite looking at countless examples of his signature throughout the years, I would hardly consider myself an expert on his handwriting. It has varied greatly over the years. I've seen verified examples resembling each of the above signatures from different eras of his career. The first resembles authorized pre-printed materials dated after 2000. The second resembles documented examples from his Sign "O" The Times era, circa '87-'88, just before he switched to a singular "P". The third resembles vintage examples from the Purple Rain era (1984-1985) and earlier. I have already factored in Prince's signing habits, timeline, and the relevancy of each signed item so please keep comments focused on the signatures only. To be honest, I DO have my doubts about all three, for various reasons. Thanks in advance. -Syren

I would say none of these are authentic. Prince stopped signing autographs in the early 90s so anything signed on something after that is clearly a forgery. Here is an authentic signature certified by Roger Epperson.

Hi- I appreciate you taking the time to comment. However, for the purpose of this discussion I'm interested in critiques based on the signature itself, not on speculation as to whether he would have consented to sign or not. I find this less relevant as he most certainly has made exceptions over the years, especially in the case of personal acquaintances or business associates. I already know that as a matter of practice he stopped signing (for fans anyway) in the early nineties because his faith discourages any form of "idol worship". The last documented public signing session was in 1993 if I'm not mistaken. By the way, while photo #1 is a suspiciously late image for a likely signature (Super Bowl half-time show 2007), photo #2 is a Purple Rain era image (vintage unknown), circa 1984-85 and the Rolling Stone cover is dated October 1990, so it could have (feasibly) been signed by him (or an impostor) at any point after that. Just trying to have an open mind and keep hope alive here. Thanks for the signature example. I have this already saved to my archives. Thanks again for your consideration and your time. -Syren

I have been a Prince collector for 20 years and have never seen any autographs signed after the early 90s. You mention certain "exceptions" ? What evidence do you have and can you please post them?

To be clear, I didn't say I had evidence of exceptions, only that in all likelihood they exist, however rare. One possible example is British singer-songwriter Daley, who posted a pic on Instagram of a signed copy of 1979's Prince!, signed "Love Prince". Daley credits Questlove of The Roots fame for giving it to him after they appeared on Jimmy Fallon together. I have not seen the pic myself but I will attempt to locate it and will post it here, if found. Of course, Questlove could have purchased it on the secondary market (not likely), or it may have been a copy of the LP with a vintage signature that Prince gave to him but, considering their current close acquaintance I have to assume it IS possible it was signed for Questlove post 90's- that's all.

I´m not an expert...but all three look off to me.

While the first one might actually have a little chance of being real, I´m very positive regarding the last two.

The autograph on WB stationary is my autograph, I never gave anyone permission to post it, please remove it.

It's real and was signed in person. I later met Prince in 1991 during the Diamonds and Pearls video shoot and Cream video shoot, he did not sign anything for me, and he refused to sign for the handful of other fans that were there trying to get his autograph.
