The one on the bottom is a forgery that has been turned into autopen. This fake appears on a ton of fake Williams items.
what I think is comical is that prior to PSA's video talking about the "hooks" in Williams' "d" and "a", they were typically left open by the forgers. Then they started overcompensating and the result is these unnaturally formed letters, and some (maybe even the top one) have the "hooks" added after the fact to previously "open" "d" and "a" forgeries.
The “gap” is always the first thing I look for. It’s funny you mentioned the hooks because it looks like someone in fact added them after the fact. So you have the original forger, then whoever ended up with the forgeries “updating” them.
Why do I have so much trouble with photos? I’m usually pretty good recognizing fakes on baseballs, but photos are more difficult for me.
Williams photos are more difficult for me.
