Questionable Stan Lee signed comics

Well, there's actually nothing questionable about them to me; I'm just being polite. Among the problems are the completely wrong 'S' and the fact that he simply doesn't write such a large signature.

Here are 2 completed items from the same seller that I reported when they were first listed. Nothing was done and they were sold to unwitting buyers.

I have had Stan sign exactly where I wanted it at conventions just by asking him, so that is not as concerning as the detached e.

It is very close, but I would purchase something else just because of that e. It very well could be authentic as it has the right formations, but I would not risk it.

Thanks for the opinions, fellow site members. I already own this item, and was told by a reliable fellow comic collector that he got Lee to sign it at a comic convension and asked for the specific signature placement. I personally feel comfortable that it is authentic, and the overall look of the cover is very appealing to the eye with the signature placement and clarity. I appreciate your generous help.

IMO, its real or the work of a very skilled forger. If you got it from a friend who says he got it in person, we can rule out the latter. :-)

Pete, it looks good to me. It's not unusual at all for the 'e's to be disconnected. Here's 2 examples I found in 5 seconds on Google images, where you can see dozens more.

I am not concerned about the placement either. Most autographed Stan Lee comics were signed at comic conventions and he is usually very willing to accommodate the collector's wishes. I did not consider the other concerns. Thanks for sharing William.

Got myself a Stan Lee signed poster and Max Brooks signed poster today. I could post some pictures if any of you are interested. The poster rolled while Stan was signing it so a bit of the "S" is off. Brooks added a nice little joke to my World War Z poster. Also, I noticed that passing forgeries is extremely easy at conventions like these, I'd like to elaborate but I'm worried about "slandering" a company's name.

Do you mean something like a blind spot in-between the signer's table and the authenticator's table? Some people here have mentioned witnessing that before.

I took law in high school too. How did I mix that up haha. :|

And yes Tom, it's along those lines. A VERY reputable authenticator was at the Expo today and my friend wanted to get his item certed by them. I "tried" something out and it kind of worked. While my friend and I were at the table and he just placed his item on the table, I continually talked to the worker (only ONE was at the table working for the company.) At no point in time did he actually look at the autograph (Stan Lee) to see if it's legitimate and the only real time he set his eyes on it was when he was applying the hologram onto the item.
