I was having a look at this month's offerings from r and r. I am sure that a number of items have been in before quite recently; especially in the music section. Any other people who think the same??

That's why auction houses should/must be picky. I personally don't think it's fair to bidders not to know that an item has not meet it's reserve. Some auction house don't show this because it stops many bidders in participating. I understand both sides except it doesn't leave a good taste to a bidder when they see an item being listed again after they bid fair and square. In any business, without buyers you are not worth much. Auctioneers usually want to serve their buyers first and foremost. Sellers will flock to where the buyers are at. As a seller, you have to be sharp and read the market to get top dollar, especially in an auction. It's a roller coaster.
Joe it is great to have someone here with auction experience-even if it was 10 years ago.
I got ripped off by an auction in Las Vegas (rock). Any idea how the statue of limitations (in terms of time frame one can sue for recovery) works in the auction area
sling, 10 years ago, try 25-30! I would think the statues of limitation has long since passed. That varies from state to state. Sorry for your experience. That happens way too often. Getting burned is part of the learning curve. I have my own personal collection of boo-boos! It keeps me humble.
I think this has been a really interesting discussion and I have found out many things I didn't know about bidding and the ways of auction houses; - but I do feel that r and r and other companies should tell you if the consignor has put a hidden reserve on it ; - fair play and all of that
Joe, You are so right on the learning curve comment. I have been "taken" by almost every auction house and it forms the way I approach things today.
It is true everywhere. I am an expert sailor because in my youth cause I hit every rock in Narragansett Bay (RI)--- not once but twice!
Learning from such ripoffs is the important thing and it can be passed on knowledge.
I may start a blog so members can learn from my mistakes and other people's mistakes as well
Some of my most costliest mistakes have been purchased off some very high profile dealers. Sometimes we get too confident in their reputation and let our guard down.
