I was wondering what people thought of R & R's new policy not to accept paypal or credit cards apparently due to large nos of defaults and chargebacks over the last year.

Personally I think it is a bad idea & it certainly is going to affect people living abroad that can't send them cheques .

As an overseas buyer, that little protection that a credit card or paypal gives me goes a long way (even if it is just 'all in the mind').  I'm obviously wrong in my thinking that 20% buyers and 15% sellers fees on every item, plus all those other little fees, wont and dont cover things like this.  It is a real shame.

yep that is how I feel.  I wonder what the reasons for all these chargeback were?  They also can't be the only auction house that has defaults??!!! However, I think it will backfire for them for obvious reasons

No more bids from me either then.... It`s really a shame since there are a lots of good items popping up on RR every month..

I didnt know this, no visa thats ridiculous who has $5000 sat in the bank and another auction house off the paypal list theres only a few left who now accept it and most of those only for low value wins, some will take it if you send it as a gift and its still cheaper than a bank transfer but of course no protection ,it is another blow for overseas buyers who get hammered with fees ,but i can see their point paypal now has a 180 day return policy which is im sure exploited by buyers who either change their mind ,cool off after bidding too much or simply decide after 179 days that they could do with the cash back

at least RR are still good guys with shipping and its all in house usually $50 to the UK unlike some who dont know where to stop or farm it out has anyone tried getting a decent quote for any wins at Juliens $200+ easily on a $500 win      with Uk customs charges 20% of the total value inc the shipping cost that $500 win costs us near to $1000  now add on bank charges i dont think ill be bidding in future

Don't most major auction houses not accept Paypal? I know some (Heritage) give a discount for e-check payment, which is reasonably convenient. I don't mind the no CC rule, personally, since they give a couple weeks to pay. You can always get the money from your brokerage account to a local checking account.

I have had to do a chargeback due to an auction house sending something not as described and shown
I think it is a must have for any buyer protection otherwise you're open to being screwed over, however unlikely that may seem

They are free to do as they wish but if it hits their bottom line too much they will start accepting them again.

Hey guys,

I just got an answer back from Sue Recks of RR Auction (who I've always found to be very honest and easy to deal with) and she told me that Paypal will remain an option for international buyers for purchases up to $2500.

I feel like thats very fair, as international buyers would face the biggest constraints in trying to purchase from RR Auction whereas U.S. citizens may not have it AS easy as before with Paypal/Credit Cards, but it is still a much easier process for them to draft checks, money orders or make transfers than it is for international buyers.

thats good news

Sounds good! Thanks for sharing.

well that is excellent news bearing in mind the earlier email she sent me.  I have also sent an email today to someone else at R & R to ask what an international buyer is supposed to do; - but as yet have not heard back.  So that is good news.

I just hate that their prices for items are way more than some of them are actually worth. I wish they had lower prices to start on bids. I mean...an opening bid of $200 or $100 for an album signed by Air Supply? Really? Things like that made me stop bidding (especially when you take on that 20%)
