I was wondering what people thought of R & R's new policy not to accept paypal or credit cards apparently due to large nos of defaults and chargebacks over the last year.

Personally I think it is a bad idea & it certainly is going to affect people living abroad that can't send them cheques .

Thanks Michelle, didn't know about this, looking into this

yes so be really careful before you bid If you live abroad ,- you can't send a cheque or cash, I think its a bad move.

Terrible move. My brother-in-law here in NZ had an item damaged in transit and went through PayPal to get a refund so this make people think twice.

As you also say overseas bidders will not be able to pay in most cases by cheques etc but a lot of cheques and international bank transfers can take up to a month to clear from some banks.

yep; - it will be good for USA bidders because the final prices will go down because overseas people are not really going to want to bid.  Counter productive move, IMO, on their part

True...I won´t be able to bid anymore :-(

Neither can I but  one can still pay by cheque, wire, money order or  cash, - not that that helps me  .

not really, the good stuff is being bought by a couple ebay dealers and offered at double anyway. I doubt it will have much effect.

My bet is though once they see people bid who will not pay via cash or transfer they either have to ban overseas bidders or just stop the policy.

Seems like a move backwards.  I have to think it will affect bidding significantly.

Completely agree Rich. It will certainly make me think twice before bidding, which also means not making any of those "oh go on then" bids, which places like this rely on.

quite. Also many people, pay by ccard for expensive  items because they haven't got the cash upfront or they are waiting for payday.

What they are trying to avoid is charge backs. You can say all you want that all sales are final but Visa will charge them back at your request no matter what. It is a real mess for merchants. With a check or cash the buyer has ZERO leverage unless you take them to court, and even then....
