Nobody asked him to do a song and a dance . If you ever had the chance to meet him in person for yourself and have had the experience myself and others have had with him then you might feel differently . Sure People sell there autographs but also there are people who are fans and would like to have the graph in there collection . There is a way to say sorry I do not want to sign , then there are people like Ringo who is a complete SNOB , Just my experience and I would say after graphing over 35 years others here have had this same experience ,

I'm not trying to defend him, because I don't know anything about how he is in person.

But I do think that when it comes to autographs, he's been more respectful to his fans than almost any other celebrity - and certainly more than every other celebrity with his level of fame. He's very reluctant to sign autographs now, and likely unpleasant about it. But for 40 years, he was maybe the only A-list celebrity who would sign autographs through the mail for free. When I was a young man, I sent him a Beatles CD cover, and he signed it and returned it without charging me a penny. And he did that for tens of thousands of people. I can't imagine how many hours he spent every week signing things. And when he finally gave it up, he made a public announcement with a deadline, giving everyone one last chance. He could have just stopped, but he let everyone know, and I'm sure that resulted in a massive tidal wave of fan mail in that month.

Which doesn't defend his other actions, of course. But I do think it's an indicator that he's a generous and grateful person on some level. I definitely treasure my signed CD. And I know for a fact that McCartney/Lennon/Harrison never would have done that for me or anyone else
