The signature looks real to me.
Thank you Ballroom! May I ask what you think of the inscription, said to been written by Ringo too?
It looks like someone else wrote the note.
Ballroom, do you have similar ones with provenance? I was iffy on that Ringo and not comfortable with it. I thought it had a chance of being real but I would have recommended that Cogo pass on it. That's beside the writing, which I agree doesn't look like his.
Thanks. The RR one looks good and the one in the OP is so close that it very likely is too. The uniform, heavy pen pressure on the OP and its slower speed set me off.
Steve and Ballroom: According to the seller (an old lady) it’s Ringo who wrote the ”Your slip” inscription. Here is what she’s saying:
”Hi, It's my dad who originally got the autograph. He had been visiting London with his brother (my uncle). One night, the 2 were sitting at a table of 4 in a fully booked restaurant when Ringo Starr and his then wife Maureen walked in. The head waiter asked my father if the couple could have a seat at their table as all other seats were taken, and of course my father agreed. When Maureen got up to go to the bathroom, Ringo wrote the messade on the back of the menu for her that her petticoat was hanging down the back. My dad then asked Ringo if he would be so kind as to sign the menu because otherwise his daughter wouldn't believe this really happened. And so he did.”
I know that anyone can make up a story, but this seems pretty credible.
How did you determine the story credible and why doesn't the inscription match the hand of the autograph as noted? I might think Ringo would pass such a note before she went to the bathroom, not after but its a story. Maybe dad added the inscription.
I can’t know for sure of course. But there are things that points towards this not being your regular forger. An older woman from Denmark who hasn’t sold a thing for 2 years. But of course, not everyone who has an incorrect story is a liar! Can be a simple missunderstanding!
But is it really that odd that the inscription is in another writing than his autograph? If I wrote a regular message and then signed it the written message and my autograph/signature will look very different. It would really help to find another written note and compare to this one, not just compare his autograph to a written note with capital letters like this.
And according to the story, Ringo actually wrote the note before his wife went to the restroom, not afterwards.
But you just wrote "...When Maureen got up to go to the bathroom, Ringo wrote the messade on the back of the menu ..."
Yes I did. According to the seller Ringo wrote the message when his wife was on her way to the restroom. Not when she returned.
I don’t know why he didnt just tell her, maybe he wanted to be subtile about it so that the other guests didn't hear. I can ask again, but the exact details may be difficult to get since it happened 54 years ago.
