I have a matted & framed cancelled check signed by Jim Morrison that I need to sell like yesterday. It was given to me by my director/writer/producer Tim Sullivan while we were working on "The Poet in Exile" film project (which has since gone into turnaround). It was given to him by the former owner of Morrison's Laurel Canyon home that he was also granting us permission to film in.

Check with Steve Cyrkin, but I do not believe we are supposed to use this Forum for selling anything

If he had a problem with it, I don't think he would have accepted me. Sorry if I'm offending you.

Just a heads up, this was the response I received from Mr Cyrkin on September 6th of this year.

"The reason I don't allow selling (on this site) is that it's too hard to monitor and questionable items have been sold every now and then."

Maybe he's changed his position in the last 4-6 weeks or has made an exception for you but he's said this multiple times recently. (This was in response to another member trying to sell on this forum in just the last few months.

Just curious - how much are you trying to get for this? Do you have any proof of provenance?

This was a gift. Under the circumstances, I had no reason to believe it wasn't authentic. I have been in touch with Bill Siddons, The Doors' former manager, to have him confirm the signature but have yet to hear back. I don't want to cheat neither myself nor anyone else on the price, but I'm not certain what it's worth. I've read different things and time isn't my friend right now--I need to sell by Sunday or Monday the latest.

The only concern I would have is this check could be a high quality color copy. It would need to be removed from frame to examine that. I think it’s risky to buy if not removed from frame to get a closer look of both sides.

Could you possibly scan the check in the frame?

I don't know what you mean. I can't take it out of the frame if that's what you're asking.

I’m asking if you can scan it without taking it out of the frame.

With the frame and double mat the check might be beyond the focal point of a flatbed scanner. It will have to be removed at some point for certainty of authenticity.

Possibly, but we might be able to better see if there’s depth to the cancellation holes. What I can see of the signatures looks really good to me. I’ve scanned framed and matted items with good results.
