OK, take it out of the sleeve and take a photo please.

Compare it to this BAS authenticated Shirley Temple that I bought in Rockhurst Auctions May sale for a gift.

Thanks, Dan. Shirley is so inexpensive—I paid about $30 for this one—that you rarely find good forgeries.

Regarding pens...

As others have said, Sharpies were not that common at all in the 1970s and 1980s.  The felt-tip of choice in the 60s, 70s, into the 80s, and even 90s to some extent, was probably the Flair felt-tip pen, or something similar.

Plus, many of the old-timers might still have used the pens from their era.  For example, I was still getting an occasional fountain pen signature into the 1990s.

As for the Shirley Temple, it does not look like any signature of hers that I've ever seen. Her signature is much neater and tighter.
