Steve asked me to start a new thread since some were having a lot of issues with regards to whether or not the through the mail autographs of Jerry Lee Lewis are real or not.  I will post some examples of what we have been getting recently and some know in person examples.   These TTM signatures are not cheap.  You have to pay $50 for them to his box office box.  The question is are they real or not.  Roger has said that he has never seen Mr. Lewis sign this way and it looks to perfect - like a woman's signature.

Please post your thoughts here and examples.

thanks

# 19 was taken backstage and signed for me at JLL's NYC show in February 2010 (I saw my cd taken backstage, but I didn't see JLL actually sign it).

I was told about this thread, and glad I was. Wow. What an interesting read.

Chad, you're losing your marbles, man. You're falling into that trap we all have when we question autographs. You're believing a person that seems nice. It doesn't work that way. When somebody is ripping people off, they can be charming, they can say and do the right things.

I am going to give you THREE REASONS why....as Elaine once told Jerry...it was "fake, fake, fake, and fake."

1) Roger gave his two cents. Not that he can't be wrong, but he is right here.

2) The person that said "His daughter signs it all." Seriously, think about WHY a person would say that. If that WAS NOT happening, why would a person even think to say it.

3) CARL RYAN IS A GENIUS!!! That guy was saying EVERYTHING I was going to post. That pictures with photos or pick guards don't mean crap. We'd need a video of him signing. Now, 90% of the time, yes...a photo would be fine. But not now, with how this has all come down. Not at all.

My conclusion : website is scamming you all. And we shouldn't settle for merely getting our money back. A class action should be brought. You get money back, postage back, and your time. Hit those jerks in the pocket book.

Josh, first, I lost my marbles a long time ago. Second, I am open to change my thoughts if different facts or information comes to light. I just find it hard to believe there is some big scary conspiracy going on. Yes,that is more exciting and interesting to people but I have not read or seen any solid proof of that. Two people saying they heard from two other people that Jerry didn't always sign everything is far from a solid case.
I am sure over time people other than jll have signed his name at concerts and such but that does not prove the ttms are bad. Maybe I'm a real sucker but I think many if the examples posted are good.
In my opinion, to do this properly, we need to go back to square one and use only verified exemplars. We currently have a mix of items, most of which are not truly verified. Until we have a solid baseline to compare to, we are chasing ghosts. For all we know, we could be comparing one secretarial version against a different secretary, or none at all.

I have noticed an interesting pattern that hasn't been mentioned yet. But I want to hold off on it until there are more examples. It could be very meaningful, or maybe prove to be nothing.
I am with you on this Zipper.

I agree - I started this thread, but really do not know how to proceed at this point.  Suggestions.. please..

thanks

MArk

I would like to have a few additional folks in the industry weigh in such as Mike Frost, John Reznikoff, Bob Eaton, the Alexandar Autographs guy and the others who are on here from time to time. I've made my current opinion known but my opinion doesn't carry much weight.

Agreed. How can we make that happen.. :)

Mark

I suppose we can start messaging them on here. I'll start with mike.

Look for dealers that handle lots of 50s-70s rock autographs. John Reznikoff and Bill Panagopulos from Alexander don't deal in JLL. Bob Eaton isn't a member of AML. Bill White of RR is a member and would be a good person to ask to contribute.

Keep in mind that it's not unusual for even top, reputable dealers to consider long-seen secretarials genuine if they haven't been questioned much before. Mr Zipper's discussion on Charlton Heston is a prime example of that.

Zipper is right: Getting as many confirmed in person JLL autographs as you can would greatly increase the dependability of this signature study. While you're looking for them, separate the autographs we have into different piles by their style, identifying where they came from.

I just named the first autograph dealers I could think of. I think you are spot on with getting the right people to look at these and finding some iron clad in-person examples to compare with.

Can you ask Bill White to look at this discussion? I don't know him. Thanks for your contribution.

Chad, I think you missed my bigger point. I'm not basing MY decision on one guy saying "His daughter signs it all." That's like the black guys I played basketball with saying "OJ is innocent, because a cop lied on the stand and really said 'n****r'." How does that prove anything? It's only one piece of the puzzle, and not even an important one.

But think about it...why would some guard even say anything like that? If you aren't an autograph collector, you don't even know to think like that.

Steve just brought up a good point about if it's been secretarials for a long time, even the best in the business might think they're real.

But let me add something. I just glanced at that cancelled check. That looks a lot more real to me. THink about it. This dude is old now. Why would his signature look as good as it does on these signed items? It wouldn't. His wife or whatever, is signing them, in his style...but they look nicer than if a person his age was signing them.

And Chad, let's look at your story a slightly different way. You were impressed with talking to her, and how the problem was rectified. Okay, that's fine. But...think about what somebody mentioned briefly. If these were real, why would she bother? Imagine let's say...that you are married to Meryl Streep. She decided she doesn't want to act, and you've convinced her to do these autograph signings thru the mail for money, since you're a collector. And somebody all the sudden sends you this long letter about how they are fake, because they got a Kramer vs Kramer poster signed by her at a movie screening in 1979, and it looks completely different. You might send a brief explanation about signatures changing over the years, or whatever. But you would hardly go thru a bunch of hoops, because you have so many being sent in...you are busy. You can offer them their money back, and that's about the extent of it. Why go farther?

Now, back to that cancelled check. It sure doesn't look like all the signed stuff that's coming back. Wouldn't the stuff coming back signed be all shaky, like an old person signed it???
