Authenticity is Everything
Taschen's Rolling Stones Collectable coffee table book
To anyone inclined to post their opinion regarding this book. The autographed version retails for $5K plus another $90. I have a couple of concerns before ordering it. For those of you familiar with the book, is it hand-signed opposed to auto-pen and is it safe to order online through Taschen's website? I raise the second question because they do not have the book listed on one of their websites but seem to have another website devoted exclusively to this book. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

I've only seen them once Joe, Steel Wheels tour. 60,000 people, I've never seen anything like it. They could make a movie out of that road trip, one of the best memories of my life. I could barely rub 2 dimes together then, sat way up on the 50 yard line at Clemson Stadium. This time I'm driving 3hours to Raleigh, by myself, 12th row. No distractions! I'm like you, there is nothing that tops the feeling I get when I see my favorite band. And nothing tops the Stones!

I was there too and if I remember correctly sat right in the same spot as you. Small world. I remember following the Orange tiger paws painted on the street from the parking lot. Shoot, we could've been sitting next to one another. Great concert as always. I was living in Greenville SC at the time and remember that it was a bit of a cruise too. I just saw them again in Milwaukee's Marcus Stadium and got a pair of great seats for the Detroit show. Unlike any other band from our generation I never tire of seeing them perform.

My opinion is that the Stones' money grubbing is nauseating. An oldies band that wants to squeeze every last dollar from every last fan while coasting on an ancient reputation for 30 years. These pompous old farts like Mick, Keith, Jimmy Page, Dylan, David Crosby, Frey + Henley and others who scorn and ignore the little folks who made their careers and bank accounts .... shame on you all.

All I know is that the Stones are one of the truly iconic names in music history. Sometimes the word icon can be used too much, but there is no doubt about this: Mick Jagger is truly a cultural icon. And sorry, it's not debatable. He and the Stones have earned their status.
There are only a few cultural icons in pop music history, names that transcend music: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Elvis Presley, Mick Jagger, Michael Jackson, Madonna. There may be a few more that stand on their own, but the list is short.

Some of us have the money and want authentic nicely signed pieces. 5 grand is pricey but Joe already has a nice signed litho and the book will complement it . It might take a while to appreciate but it will.

It will not appreciate...it will depreciate. The young kids coming up don't know these legacy groups, the dinosaurs. As times goes by, it will be a $5k paperweight. As boomers die out so will interest in Sinatra, Elvis, Beatles, etc. how much has an Al Jolson autograph appreciated? He was as big as big can be in his day.

Yes, you're right. It's just sad how there's absolutely no interest in baseball dinosaurs like Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig today, or basketball dinosaurs like Wilt Chamberlain.
And it's not like a young twenty-something music star like Kesha talks about kicking guys to the curb unless they look like Mick Jagger. Or Maroon 5 making a hit out of a song called "Moves Like Jagger". Yep, they'll soon be forgotten.
My guess is Jay Zzzzzzz (oh, I'm falling asleep) will long be forgotten before Mick Jagger or Michael Jackson.

Oh please Beatles die out, Stones. In schools for music over here they study the Beatles.The Stones are the highest grossing band in the world can't see their dead in the water and I love the book worth every cent.
