W.C. Fields and Mae West Signature Opinions, if you would be so kind. Thanks!

I bought a W.C. Fields, Mae West Photo Display from a company on Long Island named "Collector's View."  The display includes two bank checks.  One check is signed by W.C. Fields, the other is signed by Mae West. I would greatly appreciate some expert opinions on these little diddies, if you would be so helpful.

Thanks,

Patrick M. Bratcher

Those are their signatures....if they are original bank used checks and not reproductions of originals.   The Fields would be much earlier than the West.

I actually came across this piece for sale recently.  It has Piece Of the Past LOAs included for each check....would not necessarily be a good sign in the opinion of many who are members here.

They could be just fine.  However, I'd definitely say it would be important to make sure those framed checks are originals.

Thanks Eddy,

Sorry it took so long to get back.  It's been pretty busy around here.  Anyway, Thanks for your observations.  The only way I can get at those checks is to tear  the display open.  I may just do that, just to make sure.  Where's my hammer?

Thanks,

Mike

Before Piece of the Past's office manager blackballed me for daring to check the status of my online opinion order after 2 weeks, I did send photos of both checks in to POTP for their $3 online opinion.  Kevin Martin did say they were authentic, and he sent me two POTP COAs.

Run those 2 names through the search engine here.

The checks have security (perforated) dollar amounts and perforated cancelations - it should be possible to see the three-dimensional effect through the glass.

Hi JK,

That's smart thinking!  I found my hammer. I was ready!  Anyway, I checked both checks out.  They do have 3 dimensional perferations on both checks. The perforated messages on the checks say "Paid."  Then there's the date and a bit of other info.  I guess that means there's a good shot they're both authentic?

Thanks,

Mike.

I hope so - that source is not sterling.
