Hi, I just joined after inheriting a baseball I found in the bottom of a box. It appears to be a very old ball which has no marking of the make of it and the inscription reads:

Mickey Mantle

To my best friend 

This is the part I could not read. It looks like a name that starts with a B and the last name is just an initial that looks like a B.

I will try to attach some photos. You will see smudges of ink in a few different spots on the ball as if it was from the pen that wrote it.

If anyone can guess if it is authentic and possibly it's value so I can decide to keep or sell. Also, where would I get it appraised?

I think this is a fake Mantle signature.

Just a guess, but it has the appearance of a kid fooling around and signing a ball from Mickey Mantle. My bet is that it was not a serious forgery attempt.

Had to check my stubs...it was 9/28 and 9/29 2001...Damn Zipp that must have been from Camden Yard so Damn sweet...if I was at that game Zipp I would have had to made you an offer you couldn't refuse...I don't think you would have excepted....LOL

Here's a nice one that I recently picked up.  Roberto Clemente died on December 31, 1972, and his card was in the 3rd series of Topps baseball cards that year, so there was a severely limited time window for him to sign it. I would rate the sig a 5 on a scale of 1 to 10.  It's one of the key autographed cards for the 72 set.   One just sold at Heritage in Dallas in November for close to $3,000.

Here's mine.   Notice the bottom of the back, it looks like someone sold this card for $11.00 at one time (or at least had it priced at $11.00, no doubt the buyer probably asked for a discount. LOL
