Hi Guys,

There might be another thread with the same name somewhere on the blog, but i haven't seen a thread i can recall that dealt specifically on this topic. And its something i find really interesting and exciting. I think all of us have occasionally come across an amazing autograph, often extremely rare, offered for an unbelievably low price.

Now, im not talking about your average deals here. We come across great values all the time, but coming across items that have a value of 3 to 4 times what you paid for them, if not much more, is more uncommon. And its those that i find so interesting. And i would love to hear what you consider your best "steal" on an autograph.

Mine would probably be my Wes Montgomery "Travelin Wes" gatefold signed mint LP. I purchased this off ebay a couple years back. The guy was selling it for his friend who was a bar manager at a club Wes played at. He had Wes sign the LP and then he put it away. The signature is large for a Wes signature and very bold and distinct. It is the best signature example i have ever seen from him. I paid 200 BIN for it.

Realistically that item probably would go for 1500 to 2000 dollars at a high profile auction. RR sold a nice full sig Wes photo a while back and it got around 1400 i think. So as far as value, thats probably my best. Whats yours?

A few years ago, my neighbor gave me a Jackie Robinson autographed napkin from the Mark Twain Hotel in Elmira, New York. I had it authenticated by JSA and graded by Beckett (BVG 9). Once I get 10,000 Facebook likes, I'm going to auction it off. Starting Price = $0.99. No reserve.

That's a strange method of promotion haha

got this today at Goodwill for 24 cents.  Normally 47 cents, but today was 50% off the entire store. LOL.

Hopefully that will not be part of your presidential collection a year from now ;-)

In all seriousness, that is a steal that is nearly impossible to beat. Congratulations.

LOL

Nelson Mandela Signed Madiba The Rainbow Man and also signed by the author for $40.00 on Craigslist.

Hello again,

This was also under $40 on eBay. Vintage still and signature in the green felt tip I usually see on these period stills.

Best wishes,

Hello

One more batch - this was assembled from eBay auctions for about $350 total which for earlier vintage stuff is not that bad IMHO. A collection of vintage original series Star trek signed photos of various types. I went after the earliest in character images I could find - Kirk was the hardest. Three are signed in character (Spock, McCoy and Scotty). The Kelley was one of two - this 5x7 and an 8x10 both made out to the on set nurse. She was leaving. The 8x10 had an off color joke about Kelley having to pull his pants down (for a shot) whenever she came around and I did not like that - and my main crew are all 5x7 (Kirk, Spock, McCoy). The McCoy is signed "Dr. McCoy" only. Not seen this much. There was another in this lot where Kelley tried to sign for Nimoy, even using his own (Kelley's) favored green fountain ink pen (since the 40's) I assume to evoke Spock's green blood - but it was Kelley's hand obviously. All from eBay - all for hardly nothing. Proud of this little set/. The cast signed items from the 80's/90's are almost all in paint pen - gold or silver - and I do not like that medium. For one thing it bleeds into itself and everyone else has it. It all looks so generic. I prefer vintage even with condition issues if not major. I know, I need better scans, but this gives an idea. I have since added a 1968 Majel Barrett to finish this off. Authentications by me. Hope you Enjoy!

Best wishes,

Hello All,

I got this for well under $20. It will go with an 8x10 contact print of 35mm photographs heavily marked by hand for reproduction with several felt markers and pens of rehearsals scenes for Body Snatchers with Sutherland and Brooke Adams. I have a vintage Nimoy to go with this. Not Goldblum - not yet. I met Adams in NYC but did not ask for a signature.- she thought I was theater security so I just waved her into the theater backstage. This was for Equus with Radcliffe or Red with Molina/Eddie Redmayne.  Got my photo w/Redmayne who was very kind. Red was superb so I went back and had the play signed by both. Molina is tall! I have a signed playbill if anyone is interested. Not yet had the pleasure of meeting Sutherland.

Best wishes,

                 Eric
