I agree. Not authentic. Even to my untrained eye, that's not IB's signature.
Looks like her secretary from the 50s. Maybe from the Hans Dangers Filmbüro in Berlin, Germany.
I have strong doubts about it as well.
Kai - Can you tell us a bit more about the Hans Dangers Filmbüro?
It was a bureau where several people did secretary sigs on postcard sized images of filmstars, mostly on german cards. They did so around the 50s and 60s for answering ttm requests. Their sigs were pretty good as long as you didn't know too much about the look of authentic examples, but then: who did in Germany in that time?! They still fool lots of dealers and collectors, especially their Monty Clift was nearly perfect, but if you do some research on isitreal.com you can easily recognize them.
This Bergman is not shown there but is the same which appears in a german card game from the 60s which Markus Brandes once told me to be supposedly secretary when compared to her usual style.
Hi Kai -
Thanks for that. I knew something of that German bureau (and to be careful with postcards of the era) but did not know particulars or the name of it.
Speaking of Clift, here's one that I was looking at at one time. I passed on because it didn't quite seem right.....although it's really good! Maybe it was sourced from that bureau:
