Added two more astronauts to my collection today: LtCol. Nick Hague, who just recently graduated from NASA's astronaut training program on July 8, 2015, and Flight Engineer for Expedition 40/41 on the International Space Station, Cmdr. Reid Wiseman. Cmdr. Wiseman was not only gracious enough to sign an 8x10 for me, but sent back a sticker of his flight patch, and a signed 4x6 photo of the entire Expedition 40/41 crew! I have always wanted a signed full crew picture, and now I have one. Thank you so much, Cmdr. Wiseman!
So very grateful to have received the autograph of space pioneer, Edgar Mitchell, in the mail today. Mr. Mitchell was one of the first people to really explore and conceive the idea of traveling to the moon, and was rewarded by becoming the 6th man in history to ever walk on the moon. So honored to add this to my collection.
Today's mail brought me the autograph of Mission Specialist for NASA's STS-118 mission, and the first teacher in space, Barbara Morgan. After tragically seeing her friend Christa McAuliffe perish aboard the Challenger disaster on January 28, 1986, Barbara bravely flew aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavor on August 8, 2007, completing the achievements that so many had hoped for 21 and a half years later. Truely a remarkable woman who has done so much for science, technology, engineering, and mathmatics education across the country.
Today's mail brought me the autograph of record-setting spacewalker, Dr. Kathy Thornton. Dr. Thornton is truly one of the all-time greats of space exploration. She was the 2nd American female, and 3rd female ever, to walk in space on May 14, 1992. She would do 2 more space walks while servicing the Hubble Space Telescope aboard NASA's STS-61 mission, setting the record for a female spacewalks at 3. This record stood for 14 years until Sunita Williams broke the record in 2007. Dr. Thornton was the one who put the new mirror in the Hubble Space Telescope that cleared up all the images and allowed us to clearly see the universe for the first time. Amazing lady.
