Got the autograph of Raymond V. Damadian in the mail today. Mr. Damadian was, in my opinion, the real guiding force behind the development of MRI. A couple of others were working in the field of MRI at the same time as Mr. Damadian, so there is somewhat of a controversy as to who discovered MRI first. But there is no doubt that Mr. Damadian was the first to harness this concept and build the first ever MRI machine that could be used to find tumors in the human body. Simply an amazing man with an amazing story of perserverance.
Got the autograph of the inventor of dynamic-random access memory, Mr. Robert Dennard, in the mail today. Ever wondered how your radio or television set can tune in and save your favorite channels, or how computers can store information and not lose it if the power is ever cut off? It's all because of this guy, and his decades of work in the area of DRAM. Mr. Dennard is a member of the National Inventors Hall of Fame, and even incuded a circuit schematic along with his autograph. Classy touch, in my opinion.
Got the autograph of the creator of the FBI's Criminal Profiling Unit and former chief of their Investigative Support Unit, John Douglas. John has helped shape and form the way criminal profiling is done today by the FBI, through years of interviewing some of the most notorious criminal minds in U.S. history, and has aided in solving some of the toughest investigations the FBI has ever faced.
That's pretty cool. Very nice.
I was able to track down an address in which to write to Mr. Martin Cooper, inventor of the cell phone, and member of the National Inventors Hall of Fame. I sent along a blank index card with my letter to him about how fascinated I was by his story and what I have recently learned about him and his life's work. He responded back to me, and instead of autographing the simple index card, he sent back, signed, one of his personal 5x7 pictures! I am so honored to add this to my collection.
Got 2 historical icons in the mail today. First was Mr. Vinton Cerf, who along with Robert Kahn, created the computer protocols that became what is now known today as the internet. Then, I received the autograph of 1971 recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor, Harold Fritz. Mr. Fritz leaped atop of a burning vehicle and lead his troops into battle against enemy Vietnamese forces in 1969.
Aha. Just figured out how to partake in a discussion. Nice one Jeffery.
Thanks, Irishjohan. I was SHOCKED President Carter was kind enough to sign a full signature for me. That is a very special autograph to me, as you probably read from my post.
