Last week, I got through the mail, signed trading cards of former Auburn University and Baltimore Colts great Reese McCall, and baseball Hall of Famer, Yogi Berra! Could not believe I got the Berra! I checked it and compared to online examples, and it is spot on. Very nice surprise. No news this week, but it's only Wednesday!

Today's mail brought a signed 1990 LSU Collegiate Collections card of former All-American linebacker, Mike Anderson. Mike was a stellar linebacker for the LSU Tigers from 1968-1970. He was espcially known for his gritty performances down around the goal line. His goal line stops against Kentucky in 1968 (5 tackles inside the 5 yard line,) and against Auburn in 1970 (a bone crushing tackle of running back Wallace Clark on a 4th and inches play) are legendary in LSU football lore. He now owns a seafood resturant in the Baton Rouge, LA..............and loves to reminisce about his playing days! Great signer through the mail who really appreciates people.

A little disappointed recently; got back a pre-print of NHL star centre for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Sidney Crosby. However, I did get a nice autograph on his 1989 University of Georgia Collegiate Collections card of former All-SEC defensive back, Claude Hipps. Claude also played for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the NFL, and sent along a very nice thank you card, outlining how honored he was that I took the time to research his football career. You know guys, sometimes our letters really mean a lot to people.

And I forgot one in midst of all the Christmas happenings..........got back my 300 game winners project, signed by the great Nolan Ryan. Nolan was probably the greatest pitcher of the last half of the 20th century; 324 wins, 5,714 strikeouts, and 7 no-hitters. I got it by sending it to his foundation, which charges a fee for his autograph to raise money for local youth and civic groups in the Alvin, TX, area. A great cause and a fantastic autograph from a super classy guy. Now, off to get Don Sutton to finish the picture out!

Hey, everyone! I've gotten a little lazy this week, and am late in telling you all about my recent mail success of Los Angeles Sparks star, Candace Parker. Candace was an All-American basketball player at Tennessee, and is now one of the WNBA's brightest young stars. She signed a picture of herself I cut out of a Sports Illustrated depicting her tearing the rim off a basketball goal in an urban basketball court. She also sent along a very nice signed letter saying she had not seen that picture in a long time, and was excited to hear what a big fan I was. She is a super nice young woman, great to her fans.

Boy, it keeps getting better and better! First an in-person signing event with Phil Niekro, and now 2 more in the mail! The first one was of NHL Hall of Famer, Ron Francis. Ron is truly one of the all-time greats, scoring 549 goals, and registering 1,249 assists, and winning 2 Stanley Cup Championships with the Penguins. The second one was on former NFL wide receiver, Jacquez Green. I played against Jacquez in high school, and he was always a classy football player from high school to the pros. At Florida, he helped the Gators win a National Championship in 1996, and was named an All-American in 1997. In the NFL with the Buccaneers, Redskins, and Lions, he played 5 seasons, and had 162 catches for 2,311 yards, and scored 7 touchdowns.

Met Phil Niekro, former Atlanta Braves pitching great and member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, yesterday at the 12th Annual Venture Sports Toys for Tots toy drive in Lawrenceville, GA. Phil is a 3,000 strikeout, 300 game winning pitcher, and one of the very nicest people you'll ever meet. He took a few moments and talked with me about his 300th win he got in 1985 as a Yankee in 1985, and many other found baseball memories. He would sign 1 autograph for every 2 toys donated, so for 6 toys he signed for me a trading card from 3 of his 4 teams: the Braves, Yankees, and Indians. I asked him if there was a Blue Jays card of him, and he said yes, but smiled and shook his finger at me, and said, "But it is haaarrrd to find!" Everyone had a good time, and I can't wait to see Phil again at one of his many Atlanta area charity event appearances.
