Today, I got 2 autographs via some dear friends. My co-worker Pam has a son that recently finished up playing in a college baseball summer league (Sunbelt League,) and the coach for his team was former major league journeyman catcher, Todd Pratt. Brian and Pam know how much I enjoy collecting autographs, and they secured for me a game-used baseball from this season signed by Todd. What a thrill it was to get to work today and find such a surprise!
Later in the afternoon, I headed over BP Sports of Marietta, GA, to pick up my 300 game winners picture that I sent to the National Sports Collectors Convention this weekend to get Tom Seaver to sign. Tom signed the picture with a nice, big, beautiful signature, and now I am but 2 away from having it completed; Nolan Ryan and Don Sutton. Today was certainly a good day!

Went down to Turner Field today for Alumni Sunday, and got autographs from former Braves pitcher Gaylord Perry, former Braves catcher Charlie O'Brien, and former Braves first baseman Sid Bream.
Gaylord only played for the Braves for one season (1981,) winning 8 games with a 3.94 ERA, and led the National League in fewest walks per 9 innings (1.4) that year. He had a Hall of Fame career, being inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1991. He won 314 games, recorded 3,534 strikeouts, and won the Cy Young Award in both the American (in 1972) and National (in 1978) Leagues. He signed for me his yellow Hall of Fame postcard.
Charlie was a great catcher for the Braves, and was Greg Maddux's personal catcher for the 1994 and 1995 seasons, including the 1995 World Series. He was outstanding defensively, posting a .990 fielding percentage for his career. Though not known for his bat, he certainly had his moments. In the 1995 National League Championship Series against a tough Cincinnati Reds pitching staff, Charlie hit for a .400 batting average and a huge 3-run homerun off David Wells in Game 3 that proved to be the difference. He signed for me my 1995 World Series ball.
Sid played for the Braves from 1991-1993. Though he was only with us for a short time, he was one of the veteran free agents that we picked up during the 1990 off season who helped turn around our team. Sid's bat always seemed to heat up come post-season time, as he hit for a .333 batting average and 2 homeruns for us in the 3 National League Championship Series he played in for us during his 3 years as a Braves. And, who will ever forget when he hustled from second base and scored the winning run in Game 7 of the 1992 National League Championship Series off Francisco Cabrera's single? Oh, what memories! Sid signed for me a 1986 Donruss baseball card.
It was such a treat meeting all 3 of these legends. Can hardly wait for next weekend, as I hope I can attend; Tony Brizzolara, Charlie Leibrandt, and Hall of Famer Bruce Sutter!!!

Today I got in the mail an autograph of Carlos Carson, former wide receiver for Louisiana State University from 1976 - 1979, who would go on to an All-Pro career for the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles from 1980-1989. Carlos signed for me a 1990 LSU Collegiate Collections card.

Tonight, I have pretty cool story. I went to the Braves vs. Giants game tonight here in Atlanta, which was also Tom Glavine Night, as the Braves retired the jersey #47 that Tom so proudly wore for us and gave us Braves fans so much joy during his playing days. I just so happen to find Tom's suite where all his family and friends were in, hanging out and celebrating. Well one of his friends came out to talk to myself and 4 others who were hoping to catch Tom for an autograph. The guy took one item each from us, and took it inside. He came back out with a few minutes later, and Tom had signed for each of us, mine being my 1995 World Series ball that he graciously signed. We all thanked Tom's friend for his kindness and generousity. And who was this friend, you might ask? Well he was none other than former Braves pitching legend PETE SMITH! What a great guy!

Today's mail brought me a 1990 Louisiana State University Collegiate Collections card of former LSU quarterback, Jimmy Field. He also sent a very nice personal letter telling me how it was his boyhood dream growing up to play football and baseball at LSU. And boy, did he EVER play! Jimmy was the quarterback for LSU on their 1961 Southeastern Conference Championship team, and was a hero for LSU in the 1963 Cotton Bowl. He tallied 1,131 yards in offense playing halfback and quarterback for his football career, He then went on to be named a 1962 SEC All-Western Division selection in baseball, hitting for and leading the LSU team that season with a .356 batting average. What a true college sports legend!

Just wanted to run something by all you guys and gals out there.......next week is the National Sports Collectors Convention in Baltimore, MD. I am unable to attend for many reasons, but am a loyal customer with a huge, well known, and respected autograph dealer here in the Atlanta area that operates his own local store. He attends the National every year, and is doing so again this year. For a nominal fee + the cost of the autograph ticket, he is taking many items people are dropping off at his store this week up to the National to get signed. For example, in my case, I have a 300-wins piece that I have been working on, and Tom Seaver does not make any appearances that I am ever aware of in or near the Atlanta area. Since he is going to be at the National this year, I gave my guy money for the cost of the ticket, plus his nominal fee that he charges, and that way I can get Seaver on my piece without having to worry about it getting lost in the mail by shipping it off to a show appearance Seaver would be at and be left wondering will I ever get it back, what shape will it be in IF I get it back, etc. Just thought I'd run that idea by you guys and gals in case you too may know a store owner who is going to the National and might could get that tough signature for you that you've been chasing for a while!

Today's mail brought a 1989 University of Georgia Collegiate Collection card of Marion Campbell personalized to me and signed in black Sharpie. Marion had a stellar college career, and was a defensive end who played 8 seasons in the NFL: 2 with the 49ers, and 6 with the Eagles. He was All-Pro in 1960, and was a big part of the Eagles NFL Championship team that year. Beautiful autograph.

Yesterday, I got in the mail my picture I cut out of a Sports Illustrated magazine signed by Colts 2010 1st Round Draft pick, defensive end Jerry Hughes. Jerry signed my 8 1/2" x 11" cut out in black Sharpie. Beautiful autograph of the former Texas Christian University standout and future NFL star.
