Here is a display that I put together several years ago featuring the ultra-rare signature of Bill Genaust, the Marine Corp combat photographer who stood alongside Joe Rosenthal and filmed the flag raising.  Bill was KIA 9 days later.  I no longer own this great item.

In 2019 the US Marine Corps issued some corrections to the names of those pictured in Rosenthal's famous photo.  It turns out that Rene Gagnon was not one of the flag raisers pictured.

Yes, that is correct,Gagnon was a runner, and was the marine who brought up a larger flag that was raised at Iwo Jima.  So with that said, if it wasn't for Gagnon,we  would not have the historic image. Perhaps a less majestic photo would have been taken.
