Conor McGregor Arrest, James McAvoy Autographed Shirt

I thought I’d combine a handful of different things that are going on. The first, is what I heard about on a sports radio show. For a few days, they were talking about “cameos.” Now, as a movie critic, I think of a cameo as the point in a movie where a famous person comes on screen for only one scene. Well apparently, there’s a website (cameo.com) where you can pay to have famous people say a message to you, or for a friend/family member, for that special occasion. I’m not sure of all the rules behind this. Obviously, a business probably couldn’t get Hall of Fame basketball player Gary Payton to say “This is my favorite hamburger join in the state of California.”

What was fun about looking at their website at the various people they got, and the prices they charge. I saw Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee (I think he charged $250). While Pawn Stars “star” Chumlee was a mere $60. There are athletes, musicians, actors, comedians (I was thinking about $150 from Norm MacDonald, because I love him and his voice just cracks me up).

The other story involves MMA fighter Conor McGregor. He was leaving a hotel at 5 a.m. and a fan started to record him with his phone, and I believe tried to get a selfie with him. Conor was having none of it, and smacked the phone out of his hand, and stomped on it a few times. He then took the broken phone with him. Police were called and he was arrested. Again, easier to ask these folks for an autograph than a selfie.

Now, a celebrity that’s a little nicer, and is doing something super nice -- actor James McAvoy (Split, Glass). Now, after the Oscars, a lot of shows like to talk about what the various people were wearing. Well, the outfit McAvoy was wearing will be of interest to autograph collectors. It was a white dress shirt, but...he brought a red Sharpie with him backstage, and asked a lot of big names to autograph his shirt. It has Joe Jonas, Charlize Theron, Kerry Washington, and Aquaman Jason Momoa, to name a few. I saw the phrase “If it’s not Scottish, it’s crap!!” I have to believe that’s signed by Mike Myers (Wayne’s World), since he was at the Oscars to introduce the clip of “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and...he said that line in his underrated movie “So I Married an Axe Murderer.” It’s a line that also works well, given the fact that McAvoy is Scottish.

It’s also signed by Helen Mirren, his co-star Samuel L. Jackson, Michael B. Jordan (not that Michael Jordan), Amanda Peet, Melissa McCarthy, and more.

McAvoy is asking people to buy raffle tickets for ten bucks each, with the chance to win it, and all proceeds going to benefit the Ronald McDonald House in New York. They provide housing and support for children with cancer and their families.
