Cory Wells of Three Dog Night: Thank you for your music, but not for the autographs.

With the passing on October 20th, 2015, of the very talented and beautiful voice of Cory Wells, the co-lead singer and 1/3rd of Three Dog Night's amazing trio of shared vocals, Pop Music and Rock and Roll lost yet another of its pioneers and hit makers of the 1960's and 1970's.

Though Three Dog Night has for over the last 20+ years actually been a "two dog night" (Danny Hutton being the other co-singer and long time band member), a reunion of all 3 members (along with founding member Chuck Negron ) or an eventual and very hopeful induction one day of all three members sharing the same stage at the R&R HOF, now will never and can't ever happen.

I got to see the "edited" version of 3DN, 6 times over the last 10 years (Chuck Negron, again, not being in the current band). Cory was a powerful voice that entertained for over 40 years. Cory was also often the rudest person in not signing autographs for requesting fans. Concluding way too often that what he would sign would end up for internet resale, Cory refused to sign for me and several others that I saw requesting his signature on 5 occasions (in Temecula, Yucaipa, Arcadia, Newport Beach and in Solano Beach)........

Though it was his right to choose not to sign for me or anyone else, in these cases as he was entering his performance venue, it just made no real sense why he would continually and with such rudeness, blow off the 1, 2 or 3 requesting fans.

One reason I collect autographs so continuously, is not for any such profit (trust me, I spend plenty and make back nothing) but to preserve authentic signatures and autographs for my kids, your kids and fans to enjoy long after I and the artists are no longer alive. Otherwise, if myself and others like me don't collect and preserve now, the increasingly growing fraudulent autographs that are polluting the internet will only increase and what current and future fans will think they are seeing is real, will actually be continuous fake, bogus, crap.

Cory will never be able to add his signature to the photos above next to Chuck's signatures. The world lost a magician with vocals that could sing anything. Its a huge musical loss. However we all lost a long time ago the chance of preserving his very, very rare signature, which to the autograph community is a loss that could have been and should have been so easily avoided.

Very well written post! I love what yoy wrote saying "preserve authentic signatures" along with the artists music they have to realize we aren't asking much, but a little piece of their time and a signature to remember them when they are gone. You are right also, it is their priority if they want to sign. However would they rather have someone who is a fan of theirs buying forged signatures or giving their money to a reseller when they could just take 2 seconds to sign?

Since Chuck wrote that scathing tell all book which is now out of print about his time in the band and his fellow band members I doubt a re-union would have ever taken place since the other members consider Chuck as good as dead and I have been told by several other collectors that other members will not sign anything that Chuck has signed first and you are correct they were very tough signers believing everyone was out to make a buck off them. I have been told that Chuck was a great signer in the past but last year at Hippie fest he refused to sign for me and my two friends.

I had seen the two of them at two different shows one in the  late 80s and then about seven years ago. they were both awesome shows but never tried to get them to sign but however before their first show I seen them they had tshirts for sale along with autograph pictures of them for free with purchase. this could be a win win for all artists and fans if more artists did this.

Chuck Negron usually has signed stuff on his website, last time in concert they had signed cds for sale.
