A couple of baseball items that were just auctioned off that sound rather interesting. A baseball glove that Jackie Robinson wore in the 1955 and 1956 World Series fetched $373,000 at the Steiner Sports Memorabilia Auction. The same seller also parted with a Louisville Slugger bat which was used in the 1956 season. That went for $114,000. The same buyer purchased both items, but didn’t identify himself. It’s probably safe to say, if burglars break into his place – he won’t be hitting them over the head with that bat. It’s probably also safe to say, that with the release of the movie 42, the seller couldn’t have picked a better time to auction the items.
But it’s not always about making money when people sell items they own. In a very classy movie, Mickey Mantle’s sons – Danny and David – auctioned the 1960 contract their dad signed with the New York Yankess. It made almost $40,000 (in the same auction). The sons of the late Hall of Famer are donating the money to the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund.
