Wacky Autograph Inscriptions (or Ted Cruz Part II)

As a longtime autograph collector, and someone who has written for Autograph Magazine for years, I was fascinated by the story by the HuffPost regarding the fight between The Princess Bride actor Cary Elwes and Senator Ted Cruz. In short, after…

Autographed Card Sells For A Million Dollars!

Okay, so...maybe that headline of that was a little fib. The card actually sold for $922,500. And of course, we now know that it won’t be long until a card sells for more than the famous Honus Wagner card. It’s amazing to think a card from 2009, which isn’t that long ago, could warrant such a price.

It’s a Mike Trout Red Refractor Autograph, that was graded 9.5 out of 10. The price realized for this rookie card was…

Jimmy Kimmel and Super Bowl Autographs

I love how Jimmy Kimmel does the autograph thing. It’s weird with people in the media. I once gave Jay Leno crap because he was always asking musicians to autograph a CD for him. You could see that right before they went to commercials and Leno was handing a Sharpie and CD to the star. I always wondered if Leno kept those, or gave them to friends/family as nice gifts.…

The Baseball Blog

Baseball might be my least favorite sport. Now, that doesn’t mean I’d turn down an autographed Mickey Mantle baseball (but I’d prefer his Topps rookie card). I’ve got about 10 signed baseballs (the Roger Maris one is probably my favorite).

Because I love football and find baseball to be boring, I thought George Carlin’s baseball/football bit was hysterical.

Yet I heard…

Dio Has Rocked...An Interesting Auction of his Items

I’ve never been the biggest fan of Ronnie James Dio. I’m not much into heavy metal music and in high school, I hated the stoner kids that all wore Iron Maiden or Dio shirts. In fact, Rolling Stone magazine once posted a story about how Iron Maiden at one time, had sold more T-shirts than record albums.…

The Blood Blog -- Stan Lee and KISS Edition

I was trying to decide what to blog about today. I had heard that Zsa Zsa Gabor had a huge auction going on. That wacky guy she was married to was selling off a lot of her stuff. Yet I don’t think there’s enough interesting in her. The late actress hasn’t been relevant in decades. And the last time she made the news was for slapping a cop [side…

Autographed Sports Cards -- the Lebron James Edition

OHIO.

It was on my mind a lot yesterday (that almost sounds like a Ray Charles song). I was talking to a friend about a Fantasy Football controversy we were having (believe me, as I write that, I realize how nerdy that makes me sound). He screamed into the phone, “Oh my god! Trump just won Ohio. This election is all over.”

That was four hours before it was…

Presidential Autographs and Handwriting Analysis

When Autograph Magazine could be found in newsstands everywhere, I enjoyed writing columns and stories for the publication. I still love writing the blogs.

Steve Cyrkin brought in a lot of interesting people to write for the magazine, but one person bugged me. Not on a personal level, but what it was she wrote about. It was handwriting analysis.

Now, as somebody that loves autographs – it’s something I should’ve really dug.…

Autographed Baseballs -- The All-Star Game Edition

If you’re not a baseball fan but an autograph collector, you have to at least appreciate getting a baseball signed on the sweet spot. That white background, and a ballpoint pen signature…while you smell hot dogs in the background.

The two baseballs I regret not buying are Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays. At a baseball card show, a guy was selling a Mantle ball for $125. I…

To Kill An Auction -- The Harper Lee/Albert Einstein Edition

Harper Lee, the author of the classic “To Kill a Mockingbird,” was back in the news recently. Her second, much anticipated book “Go Set a Watchman” which deals with the characters 20 years later, is set to be released soon. Usually that makes collectables sell for a lot more. Often times a movie adaptation of a book will spike interest also.

Christie’s in New York…

I Read the News Today, Oh Boy -- More Wacky Autograph Thoughts

So, as the week is about to start, thought I’d write about some of the thoughts and stories popping into my brain. It’s almost 1 a.m., so forgive me if it’s not as clever as it seemed late at night, right before bedtime.

Since the guitar George Harrison played (I wrote about it a few weeks ago in a blog) recently went at auction for almost $500,000, I couldn’t help but…

Elvis Hair, Kanye Air

I’ve mentioned before how when I was 15-years-old, I read a story about a piece of toast George Harrison had taken a bite out of, selling at an auction for $20. That might seem pricey, until you think of the amount of money that one investor spent to have the bed sheets the Beatles slept in (he lost his shirt on that, thinking he could cut them up into small pieces and sell…

Say it Ain't So, Joe -- One of the Rarest Baseball Autographs Ever

Lately, I’ve been thinking about all the autograph collectors that have gotten burned over the years by purchasing something that turned out to be fake. We’ve all been there. It stings.

I thought what this website needed, was a story on the opposite end of the spectrum. So here it is.

About 10 years ago, a man named Bill Bowen saw a scrapbook in a barn near…

The Man Who Got Many Into Autographs Dies

With Stephen Colbert doing his last “Colbert Report” (what a funny show), everyone is making a big deal about the cameo appearances by everyone as he sang his goodbye song (with Randy Newman on piano, who by the way…is great with autograph requests).

For those that don’t know, he’s replacing David Letterman, and dropping the fake Republican character he played on this…

An Autograph From a True Hero

It’s funny how when you live in a city with somebody famous, you take them for granted. For autograph collectors, you probably got their autograph at one point, but you see them at so many functions you lose interest.

Here in San Diego, there are many people that are huge all over the world, but I’m at many events with. Those would include sports Hall of Famers like…

Give Me a Head With Hair (Just not for collecting purposes!)

It’s strange how people get when it comes to collectables. Just today, I heard that the gold medal Jesse Owens won in the Berlin Olympics in 1936 (talk about a big F-U to Hitler), is on the auction blocks. He apparently gave it to Bill “Mr. Bojangles” Robinson. If I were rich, I’d pay millions for it (it’s currently around $200,000); easily one of the coolest pieces of sports…

Biggest Autographed Baseball Collection in the World!

There’s nothing more enjoyable than meeting a fellow collector and hearing about their autograph collection. As somebody that prefers autographed records and CDs, it’s always the most fun to hear about those.

I have a lot of authors I like, yet I don’t own a lot of signed books. I’m always envious when I go to New York and see the…
