The number of questionable autographs of Mickey Mantle and Ted Williams on ebay has reached epidemic proportions.

There are also a good number of Sandy Koufax and Joe DiMaggio questionable autographs on ebay.

Beware those with Nicholas Burczyk COA's. I have yet to find one of those COA's that I agree with. Despite my posts on various places including my own blog on my website, nobody has been able to prove to me that Mr Burczyk actually ever authenticated a baseball autograph.

The standard cover story that the sellers use is that Mr Burczyk authenticated for Scoreboard and that these are Scoreboard items. If so, how come the Scoreboard COA is not with the item. If so, why did the owners of these autographs wait for 18 year or so before they decided to sell these autographs. And they are selling into a recession and an over flooded market where prices for these autographs have dropped 70-80%.

Many of these items also come with a COA from GAI. I have disagreed with those COA's about 99% of the time.

Many of these autographs, apparently, are being bought by non autograph people who know nothing about the business and are getting stuck, in many cases barely able to sell their items or not even selling them at all.

As I said in my prior blog post, many of them are being sold on non ebay auction sites. For ridiculously low prices you can buy a questionable Mantle, Williams, DiMaggio or Koufax autograph very easily and probably a couple of hundred of them a day. The come on scam lines they use are "Mantle autographed photo , Min Bid $19, Comparable at $399.", or Williams, or Koufax or DiMaggio or 500 HR lithos.

If I remember correctly Home Shopping and Johnny Bench used to say the same thing until they were stopped by government agencies and fined for false advertising.

Then the people who bought them on non ebay sites flip them over to ebay, where the volume of them is so overwhelming, and they see them barely sell for $40 if at all. The trend is now towards these items not even selling.

One of the sellers has made accusations that the people who are attacking these autographs have large inventories of Mantle, Williams, etc and hate it that the prices are depressed. I have zero Mantle autographs in my inventory and three Ted Williams autographs in my personal collection. One of which I have listed on ebay at a very high price. I have included in my ebay advertisement a short educational course for collectors to try to help them determine the real Ted Williams autograph. I have zero Koufax autographs and one DiMaggio autograph in my inventory. So I have nothing to gain by educating collectors about what to be on the lookout for.

I can tell you this about Sandy Koufax. My parents had field box season ticket seats at Dodger Stadium from 1976-1998. We would see Sandy Koufax there all the time. The word on him was basically, please leave him alone/no autographs/no asking. He waived, he smiled and he loved to be around the fans, trying his best to enjoy the games much like fans. Did he ever sign at Dodger Stadium.......yes, but very rarely. I have 2 signed baseballs that either my father or I got ourselves.
