Star Wars Autographs by the Numbers: Which are the Rarest?

Watching different Star Wars actors sign autographs for the last few decades, I started trying to figure out the numbers. How many pieces have been signed? How much value should be attached to each autograph? What are the prices…

Warning Signs an Autograph Dealer May Be Selling Forgeries

There have been countless write-ups and articles about what to look for when it comes to buying autographs. Most have the same information such as "if it's too good to be true it probably is," and recommend comparing the autograph to known exemplars, secretarials, autopens and other references.

Instead of discussing the technical aspects of…

Star Wars Autographs: Deciding What to Collect

Someone asked me about the most important info for the more advanced autograph collector that has decided to expand their collection to include Star Wars. There is so much to know that I feel that this post may ramble a bit as I put things in as they come to mind. Many of the items I will mention are helpful facts for any type of collector.…

Star Wars Autographs: Striking Back at the Dark Side

Collecting Star Wars autographs is possibly the best hobby in this world or any other. But the hobby, just like the films, has a dark side. Forgeries, secretarial signatures, dealers without the proper knowledge and mistakes by authentication companies can give even the best collectors heartaches and nightmares.

With all the hype surrounding the release Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, and the promise of the remainder of the new trilogy and stand-alone films…

eBay Charity Selling Autographs

I posted a HELP message yesterday (which I quickly removed and I'll explain why) after working with eBay ID- helpinghumans EVERY DAY for ten days. They are (or were) a decent charity doing the right things for the right reasons donating 70-80% of everything they made (minus eBay/PayPal fees and other expenses) selling donated autographs on eBay. Donating 70-80% is VERY HIGH for a legal charity of any kind large or small (especially knowing that eBay/PayPal likely charges them 15% total of…

Meeting a Runaway

The Runaways, the first all girl rock band that played their own instruments featured two members that also had break-out solo careers.  Joan Jett was the first to gain recognition with her 2nd solo album "I love Rock N Roll" as well as various other hits and cover songs through out her career.  I always liked Joan and her big eyes and punk attitude.  I got the opportunity to see her open up for the Kinks back in 1987 and she put on a great show.  I never got to meet her, but I hope to this…

Another Week of Rock

Four different classic rock acts came through NE Ohio last week and I decided to go to 3 of the shows.  First, Todd Rundgren came to Kent for "An Unpredictable Evening".  I'm not a huge Todd fan, but I do like his music so I decided to take a chance to see if anyone had an extra ticket to this sold out show.  Luckily,  got a $40 for $30 ( I love not paying full price).  Todd and his band sounded very good and played a variety of

cover songs including 96 Tears, Muskrat Love, and Fire.…

Cheap Trick- Great band, great guys

I've been a fan of Cheap Trick since about 1982.  I remember hearing some of their popular songs on the radio before that, but I believe that is when I bought Live at Budodan on cassette.  After that, I was hooked.  Then we finally got MTV and watching their live performances and some of their crazy video's made it even better.  I continued to buy their albums:  Dream Police, Next Position Please and One on One.  Finally I got to see them live in 1985.  They opened up for Heart and the next…

Meeting The Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band

I was first made aware of Kenny Wayne Shepherd in the early 90's when people were talking about this young guitar phenom.  I bought his first CD a few years later and was pleasantly surprised.  In 1998, he opened up for my favorite band Van Halen (yeah it was the tour w/Gary Cherone on vocals).  I was in the 7th row on the floor and was blown away at his musical ability and guitar tone.  I actually caught one of his guitar pics too!  I bought a couple of other CD's over the years but always…

rockinmemories4U selling fake autographs please check out and pass the word

I was a victim of a company called rockinmemories4u. I purchased items from them, ranging from albums to guitars. Only recently when I went to have them certified was I informed that they were fake signatures.  I was so embarrassed and pissed. The items were purchased over a year ago. Now that I look at what they are selling I know now . How stupid I was, thinking I can get signed items from deceased musicians for such cheap prices. I bought a beatles signed album for 1,300.00 Please pass…

A Discovery and Question

Can certain historical situations regarding signees increase the value of their autographs? The reason I ask is because I recently discovered something very interesting within my 9/11 aftermath paper ephemera and autograph collection. Here my story:

I came across a program I hadn't looked at for awhile signed by then-United Nations  Representative of Egypt, Ahmed Aboul Gheit. I spotted him in the audience of talk in February 2002 by military historian and novelist Caleb Carr about…

2013 Passings

Every year several of those whose autographs I've secured (1-4x) over the years pass away. Here's the list from my collection who died in 2013:

Andre Schiffrin - independent/progressive publisher

Major Owens - former Representative from New York. Championed education and Americans With Disabilities Act.

Lou Reed - influencial singer/songwriter

Muriel Siebert - First Woman of Finance. First woman to own a seat on the NYSE.

Ed Koch - combative NYC… Continue

Charles Manson - Are these autographs Authentic?

I am going to go off the normal mainstream autograph collecting topic for a moment. I myself have collected infamous autographs, as do many other collectors. I also authenticate autographs and handwriting of many infamous individuals including serial killers. I do not condone the auctions of these individuals but I authenticate autographs and these are autographs that are being sold daily all over the world.

These signed checks are being sold at auction almost ever week, I have…
