I obtained this autograph from a collector who knew Robert White (was mentored by White) for over 20 years. I believe it's authentic but would like your opinions. Thank you.

Thank you Erik, I am personally always looking for Lincoln, Adams, Jefferson and Kennedy autographs, not a big fan of cuts. I do resell a few, but I am very passionate about Presidential autographs, and hold one of the biggest collections in the world, of presidential letters and manuscripts, and about 300 books from Presidents Personal Libraries including Jefferson.  Kennedy I will buy some cuts. Kennedy will skyrocket next year on his 100th birthday.

I don't think they will skyrocket. The 50th anniversary of his assassination saw very little movement in prices. I bought mine around that time and I paid the standard rate.

James, you are on the money. I have sold books for $3000 and at times picked up Kennedy letters for $600. They are all over the board. Part of it is because Kennedy unlike other Presidents signed in over 100 variations, and the Autograph industry is scared to buy. There are very few people in the world that can correctly identify Kennedy's signature apart from Autopens. PSA since Spence Sr, Darvick, and Steve Grad left, they are not qualified to authenticate Kennedy. They are great with Sport autographs. JSA only if Darvicks and Spence looks at it. Andreas and Koschal are also very good. I would not trust anyone else to look at my Kennedy's.

James, the new Authenticators that companies hire nowdays have no clue on Kennedy. Kennedy signed with 6 different pens, at times he would sign a document using 3 different pens. If you looked at most of campaign signatures of Kennedy, they were written so fast, that will definitely confuse an authenticator without any Forensic training, all your terms like " Irregular spacing between letters, Irregular overlapping of strokes, Unusually positioned, Improper shading, is all crap of a novel authenticator that has a doubt in his mind and does not know. That is why the autograph community is scared to buy Kennedy. And that is why if you have Kennedy make sure that it is authenticated by Spence SR, Steve Grad, Bob Eaton is also good, Andreas, Koschal, John Reznikoff or Darvick. Do not trust anyone else. They simply do not have years of study and expertise.

Thanks to everyone for your input about this JFK signature. I bought it on eBay and paid with Paypal. Does anyone have any advice on what my steps should be to try to get a refund?

Thank you.

Jean

Jean, go through eBay and ask for a return. Attach the Authentication report from PSA or JSA that it did not pass. You will not have any issues.

Jean, in case you did not sent in for authentication, you can simply say that you are not satisfied and still request a return. I have done it a couple times with no hassle. You are not going to have any problems. Ebay is very good with returns. What did pay for this Autograph? If less than $750 and did not got examined yet, it might be worth to send it in to an Authenticator. There are a couple out there that are very good, better than PSA and JSA for Presidents and Historical items, and more reasonably priced. Jean, I could not remember if you had sent in for a quick PSA opinion yet. That will only cost you $10 if purchased from eBay, and $15 outside eBay..

Jean, I was going through all my books on Autograph studies and I saw similar examples. I looked through the Robot that helped make the President by Charles Hamilton and the Paul Carr study, plus a couple of Stephen Koschal's books and I am still convinced by 70% that it is Authentic. I also looked for ink variations and patterns. I spent a couple hours researching this signature. Definitely not Autopen or secretarial, I do not think it is a fake, I could be wrong, but my gut feeling and research says it's real.
