John lennon mystery piece

Hello . I was is new york for a citytrip in 2013. Being a beatlefan I went to a fleamarket to look for records.Found no good records,but I saw a stand with posters etc and a lot of paper things.there I found this little paper with some writing on it.It said john and yoko and a date and adress.I could see it was handwritten and I knew John would always write john+yoko instead of john and yoko.So i bought the little paper and took it home.So investigating the piece I became pretty sure john wrote and drawn this. What do you guys think of it?

Great Jim. Also, the OP's image has been squared, apparently for reduction/transfer. John Lennon seemed fond of freehand work in a loose manner on a borderless tableaux.

Just my 2 cents...I am no John Lennon expert or even a Lennon collector...however, given the genuine examples posted within this thread, it's pretty clear that John didn't touch this item. All you have to do is compare the writing. And at the risk of sounding rude, before you tell me handwriting changes depending on how rushed a signature is, please keep in mind that I've studied my favorite band's hand now for over 40 years. I'm well aware of the changes that might happen in a hurry, even still, this item doesn't seem to be signed or drawn by John. The lines across the paper mean it isn't traced. It's drawn free hand. The squares are a drawing technique. The idea is, you take the original image and draw 6 or more squares on it. Then you take another paper and draw the same amount of squares. You then only focus on drawing the lines and images that are in each small box. Some feel the simplicity helps them to learn to draw. I'm sorry to say this but I doubt this item was from John. It seems most agree with that. No offense intended, but it seems to me that you're asking for thoughts on this item...but you're not accepting them? I'm sure it's disappointing to hear that the item isn't genuine, but the chances of you stumbling upon a genuine Lennon item like that without paying major bucks is nearly 0%. Don't get discouraged. Real Lennon items are out there. You just have to save up are bit and know where to look. All the best.

Another below. Why would a man capable of saying so much with a few lines need to square a drawing from a photograph? No, he is not Egon Schiele, despite some similarities in subject and even handing, but he has command of his line and volume etc. The drawing posted by the OP, despite all its "detail", still does not seem quite solidified. The drawing below, sketched in "shorthand", says so much more with so much less, and is consistent with his other works.

Well i can put direcly on the shaved fish album. So the head is identical. But whats intresting are the fill in .and around the head.that style.also coincidence?

In a word from Yoko, "yes" re coincidence. Especially as none of the major features align anymore than this "shading". Sorry, but it is what it is.

I believe the general consensus would be that the drawing and writing is not done by John Lennon. I don't believe that I've seen any evidence that would change my original opinion including the "fill in lines" on the drawing. Perhaps this is simply a drawing done by an art student who was lucky enough to spot John + Yoko in NYC and wrote that down at the top of the paper? In any event thanks for bringing this forward it was interesting to discuss and I wish the responses were more favorable!
