Hi all,

Long time lurker, first time poster here.

I have a question regarding this Michael Jordan autograph. A dealer at a con I attend is selling this for a great price and I'd like to snag it but I want to make sure it's legit. From what I can tell, Jordan's autograph has slight variations and this does seem to match some I've seen online but I figure it wouldn't hurt to ask here as well.

Cheers!

Classic old Jordan. I like it. Very difficult for all but the best Jordan forgers to duplicate that flow with that much fluidity, but there will be more members taking a look soon that are more knowledgeable than I am about Jordan's ink.

And now that you broke your cherry, you can do all of your lurking right here on the forum, as a contributor, with the rest of us, welcome aboard! 8)

Cheers for that! I'll do my best to contribute too :)

I'm skeptical on this one. There isn't flow between the M and the rest of the first name. Slant of the signature also looks off imo
Thanks for your input. I'm waiting to hear from a few others before I pull the trigger.
I appreciate your thoughts though!

Cheers.

I used to have one I traded that I got myself, in person, at the hotel he was staying at a long time ago! This looks to be almost identical. What do you see that looks off? Curious.

And the one I had was a photo/book cover, signed while supported by the hotel desk. Others I've seen from that period indicate that his signature was  really consistent at the time.

I'm wondering what's off on it too. I'm hardly an expert but I have seen a few of his signatures from different points in his career and this seems spot on.
I'm thankful for anyone chiming in though. I'd love to get a wide range of opinions before I decide.

And I'm not a Jordan expert, I could be wrong. My expertise on Jordan is strictly limited to the two pieces he signed in person for me over about a 3 year period while playing for the Bulls, the earlier of which is just about identical to this one posted here. Second one, three years later, the M and the J slightly different but very close to the one procured 3 years before, both of which look to me like yours. I've also studied online official exemplars, checks, documents, etc. and I see a consistency to yours and mine from that period. But that's why I was hoping others would weigh in too. Guys with Jordan's vibe clocked, like Chris, Terrier, Big John, and several others have Mantle down cold.

I'm hoping that other people chime in too. I'm certainly not discounting what Seamus said, I'd just like to get more of a full picture before I decide what to do (I have about a week to decide)
It is all about provenance ask him where he got the sig.

Sorry for the lateness in the reply. Although I am not a Jordan expert, I am familiar with many of his signatures characteristics through studying many UDA exemplars and comparing the many forgeries out there - which some are quite good - which I believe this to be one.

The two aspects that throw me off with this one is slant and flow. The characters are very narrow and slant too much. The signature does not have flourish like I have seen from MJ. That's a high level analysis I will provide.

Also, lets look at the medium. Its a photo signed in the perfect spot. Without UDA certification and/or iron clad provenance, you're not going to get this neat of a street signature from him. It has to be a sit down signature and he only does those with UDA. Therefore, with no UDA cert, I am again very skeptical.

My advice, if you want a nice recent signature, make sure its UDA unless you go vintage (80's-early 90s).

That's my two cents.

Hi all,

So after speaking to the buyer he tells me that he got this outside a Bulls practice in November of 1991.
He's been in the collecting/selling merchandise business for years (according to him)
While this particular item does not come with the Upper Deck hologram, the seller does sell other Jordan items that are UD certified.
I think I'm going to stick with buying an UD certified photo. It's a difference of aboyt $600 but there's no question on legitimacy.

Thanks all!
