This thing? No way.

Surprising coming from heritage. Obviously a forgery and a very bad one. Wow!!!
yes, very surprising coming from Heritage, and doesn’t look good to me either.

Yes, a friend of mine, who is a long time collector and I think it's fair to say, a U2 expert, were discussing this.  He thinks its not authentic.  If it was on eBay or something, I would immediately agree and disregard it.  But being in a Heritage auction, I played devils advocate and wondered how this could be presented as authentic.  There must be a story.  If it is real, it was signed at the same time with the same pen, so in a controlled setting, as if maybe it was donated by the band for a particular charity or sold directly by the band to the public.  But it occurred to me that I've never heard of U2 offering anything signed.  The Eagles, for example, sold signed guitars that you see frequently in the secondary market.  And I've seen Eagles items that were donated to charity by the band or a member.  But never U2.  If this is good, then it would be the first such official signed guitar I've ever seen.  And if that's the case, it made me wonder what their signatures would actually look like if done officially and deliberately.  To speculate as the History Channel does, "Could it be that U2 signed this guitar for a cause, and if so, could this be what their signatures really look like when not rushed or impromptu?"

If it was signed in a controlled setting shouldn't the signatures be as close as possible to their authentic examples? These aren't even close. Heritage has sold plenty of music forgeries over the years, I have no idea where they source them or who they use to authenticate their stuff but they need to find someone new.

Here is an authentic one from the collection of their producer Barry Fey. Note the differences?  If enough people report the fake one to Heritage they MIGHT remove it. One can always hope.

i think u mean barry fey the long time concert promoter

That's pretty amazing.  Is that yours?  I have a guitar from the Fey collection as well.  Clapton, not inscribed.  As John states below, Mr. Fey was a promoter, and I know worked a lot with U2.

barry fey was was fey line intertainment one of the biggerst concert promoters .just like bill graham john scheer or ron delsner .

Here is the response from  Garry Shrum /Consignment Director Heritage Auctions:

Our consignor received this guitar from her brother after he passed away. He had a club in Chicago and he had U2 sign the guitar one time when they were in town.

Other pieces from the same collection are the sighed Who’s Next, The Pete Townshend and Eddie Vedder signed poster, the signed Eddie Vedder ukulele and the signed

Billy Corgan guitar and letter. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

It's reassuring that they simply take their consignors word for it and don't bother to do any additional research or authentication.

They signed it "one time when they were in town". Case closed.
