Hello - I’ve posted this in person JC autograph before and if you put the images side by side you can see the similarities so IMO yours is probably legit. jC, as I’ve always read, was extremely good about autographing for fans. Ida, by the way, was the husband of Cliff Call who was a sound mixer at Warner Brothers.

She did employ secretaries and one at the time of the OP sig was quite good. JoeW has seen more and thecead.com shows the secs as well as genuine.

First, thank you for your response and the in-person Crawford signature for comparison. Second, thanks for allaying my fears I had gotten snookered (again). I bought the item based on the same info you read, that Joan signed all her own photos. It wasn't until after my purchase did I discover that Joan did, in fact, have a secretary sign items.

I've been reluctant to ask the forum to authenticate the piece because ignorance is bliss. But, I just had to get validation one way or the other.

I would ask JoeW to take a look - I see some signs of secretarial. Look at the legibility - the ending flourish, that "f"...

Henry

Your example is not similar/samey... they are to a degree but notice the ends of Crawford and that is the main clue between authentic and secretarial.

The OP's is a secretarial IMO

Henry's is authentic - I believe the OP has several observable differences, legibility aside. Look at the formation/construction of the last half of the last name./ Also the "o" in "Joan", the loops of the "ll's" in "Hello", the spacing of the "w" and etc.

I am not confident this is a genuine signature. Leaning toward secretarial. IMO.

That is where I am - secretarial. Sorry Garrett.

Hey, that goes with the territory. No problem. I can use the frame for something else. It's not the first time I've been snookered. I appreciate the honesty.

I went back and found the so-called Certificate of Authenticity that came with the piece. LOL. Star memories.biz is no longer in business, if it was in business at all.  Just goes to show the value of Certificates of Authenticity, unless it's a highly reputable business.

take care
