Hi.  Been pondering on this issue for a while.  I've been looking to get a signed bat for some time and I am kinda stuck on which color sharpie is better for a bat.  I've been interested in two items, a regular wooden bat signed with blue sharpie and a black bat signed with a silver sharpie.  Which, in your opinion, is better and would last longer on a bat?  Thanks in advance!

I prefer a black bat signed with a sanford silver paint pen medium point that you can get from a art store. I have had blue sharpie and black sharpie fade over time on a blond bat. Who are you looking at getting on the bat?
Yes a lot of people recommend those silver paint pens.  In particular, I've been looking for a Robby Cano bat.  I've found a couple and I'll attach some pictures.  Both look like they are fading already.  Is there a way to tell apart the paint pens from the regular sharpies? Thanks!   - Mike

The Paint Pen in my opinion is very smooth and one solid line, I have seen bats signed in silver sharpie and they tend to look a little streaky sometimes. Hope this helps!
Thank you!

Just an opinion, but I do not like paint pen or Silver Sharpie. Blue on a blonde bat displays the best. It is also my opinion more collectors prefer Blue on blonde bats, so there is more potential resale value should you wish to sell someday.

By the way, I would never use paint pen. They take a long time to dry, they tend to blob up and I have had several pieces ruined because part of the paint pen signature did not adhere and simply came off the item.

Silver Sharpie is supposed to be more reliable than paint pen, but as someone else stated, they can be streaky or weak.

Thanks for the input Mr Zipp.  I've heard mixed views but you are right on about paint pens.  I happen to have a mini helmet signed by the linebackers on the Steelers in gold paint pen.  Some of the signatures look as if they had difficulty adhering to the plastic and are "streaky".  I wound up buying a Cano signed black bat in silver paint pen from Radtke.  Unlike the helmet, it looks really nice and the ink dried up well and clearly.   I put it in a UV holder and I just hope it lasts for years to come.  -Mike.

My Cano bat is black/silver as well.  It appears it was signed with silver sharpie, not paint pen.

An artist who does a lot of framing of signed items once told me that paint pen never truly dries. Under certain storage conditions, it can actually get tacky again.
