Your letter had no impact whatsoever on a military career. It is simply enclosing a copy of a letter Senator John F. Kennedy received. That's all.
What I meant was that this was in response to a member of the Army asking not to be posted to Korea. Asking for a change of posting has surely the potential to impact one's career.
Yeah it probably did impact his career and usually not for the better. When service members back in the Korean and Vietnam era reached out to senators and congressman to help them bypass the chain of command like this it most likely had an huge impact on his career. There is a stigma applied to Soldiers who do that. Wonder how much further he progressed?
Chris, asking for a change of posting has surely the potential to impact one's career, but JFK's letter, signed in his name by a secretary, neither asks for the change nor notifies Sgt.Lewis of the change. All it does is accompany a copy of a letter. --- Herman
except the letter says "I am pleased to learn that you will not be shipped overseas"
Which is exactly what Sgt. Lewis's original letter asked him to arrange for him.
So it seems to me that his original request was granted.
