I thought I would share this with members in particular all Bowie watchers.

several weeks ago I was offered this by a UK seller and thank goodness he is s man of integrity. To explain further I sought opinion from the community and it seemed that the signature was deemed authentic.  I made a gentleman’s agreement with the seller and price was agreed.

I have been contacted by the seller who was honest enough to advise me that it had been brought to his attention by Andy at David Bowie autograph site that the signature was in fact the hand of David’s close personal life long assistant Corrine Shwab.

Andy explained that a close contact of his who was previously David’s press agent at RCA had confirmed that this particular signature as well as some Elephant Man signed photos were undoubtedly Corrine’s hand.

I am grateful to the seller for his honesty as I had agreed a purchase at a pretty price.

I was not implying the previous buyer was casting doubt on anyone’s credibility just that he realised it unethical to sell on something he knew to be fake

Hi James

Sorry if I appeared to be defensive, just a number of us focused on Bowie have discussed this style for several years and there has been no conclusive confirmation on it until now. I have been taken in by it in the past based on the recommendation of two of the top recognised authenticators on Bowie  (one in the UK and one in the States). Another collector suggested he had seen him sometimes sign with his right hand.

I agree, the seller showed a great amount of integrity in warning you that it was not genuine and they are to be applauded.

Andy's site (a non money making effort) was set up to protect the buyer as is the intention of 99% of the contributors to this site for the safety of those interested in hopefully owning a genuine Bowie. The fakes are sadly getting better.

Thanks for your reply Mark.

I suppose we all live and learn. the buyer spoke to me today and is of course disappointed but realised there is always an element of risk involved when purchasing autographs.

again thanks for your input.

James

Interesting no input on this from eric longo

James,

You and Mark Merry have the same IP address and signed up with email addresses that are identical except that one's hotmail and the other is Yahoo.

I'm letting you know this because you were having conversations here with Mark, so I wanted to warn you that you were talking to yourself.

hahaha well worked out Steve boy! You and mr longo et al are a bunch con men. Closing ranks when your pathetic little clique are exposed for what you are. £2400 down spent in fake s*** that your website endorsed.  Shame on you all!!

I hope mr longo is happy now , I considered him a gentleman but not the courage to reply. Hiding away behind your colluded little gang

My final word to you all is this, whatever you all consider yourselves to be and how you pontificate about this and that and how the industry is swamped with low life fakers. Take a good hard look at yourselves and sleep well.  And by the way bad s*** happens to bad people and that’s karmas way of levelling things

Can someone explain please what's going on here? Because I feel that this story is going in behind the scenes?

Sara, one thing is clearly true - not everything in this thread is actually how it was presented. The person you friended earlier today as "James" is actually another member named Mark Merry, as you read above. Mark Merry is lying - pretending to be "James". "James" doesn't exist. Mark Merry purchased the autographs in question a few years ago - pried them from my personal collection over many months and now new information has come to light in the last week or so as you read earlier from MarkG. As to James/Mark's comments about Steve and this site, I take great offense. This is obviously not a clique - this is a community. AutographMagazine.com did NOT endorse anything and it was a private transaction - not a BST sale here. For the rest of James/Mark's comments - I prefer direct communication as many of you know. To be clear, I have not even been asked for a refund by James/Mark. At this juncture, after his lies commingled with this obvious attempt at obfuscation and manipulation which he just freely admitted - it's looking quite unlikely.

Hi Eric, thank you for the explanation. I understand now. I was really confused, but now I see it's not my business and the rest has to be resolved direct.

"...the rest has to be resolved direct..."

It just was.

Mark Merry - I didn't tell you to come on here pretending to be 2 different people, months ago, neither of which had the courtesy or sense to ask me for a refund or even friend each other, while talking plainly about the same things (Kiss/Alice Cooper etc.) and trying to do whatever this was covertly. You chose to make this public and contravene the Terms of Agreement and try to pass yourself off as someone else to twist or distort things - I don't know. Goodness, I was able to guess that you were "James" quite quickly based on "James" knowledge and what you said about yourself. Seems I was indeed right from your recent open admissions. So to be clear, while you were writing me last week to express your true heartfelt condolences, you were actually already James in here, since December, getting me to talk about those Bowie graphs (my opinion never changed), looking to do whatever with some weird agenda known only to you.

When you purchased these autographs they were certainly sold in good faith with the very best information available and they were backed/authenticated by all - you know you took them to Tracks UK yourself and they were passed. You took them to Bonhams and they were passed. You tried to sell them - I think I have screen caps of the Elephant Man presentation (which was quite nice). I tend to save things. Anyway, I recall you asked me to help you sell them when you needed to - and you know I tried. And the other experts here etc. passed these 2 signatures as authentic as well. Andy and MarkG also thought them good, obviously. I know I did because it took something like a year for you to get me to sell them, including that lovely unmentioned original mint set of 1976 lithographs from The Man Who Fell to Earth, as you specifically requested in your final offer.

Now, I wrote you, (was it just 48 hours ago or so? 72?) reminding you I am under great stress (you knew I had been to the lawyer that day or the day before) and I would need some time to go over all this new information which came from the Bowie camp itself just last week - I just learned of this - after you. But before I could even respond to you again you were masquerading as "James", doing whatever this was and then demanding I just send you cash last night and then the "I'll come visit you" talk. That is not how that works. You are now dealing with my response to your bizarre circuitous actions and demands of your own choosing. You did this to yourself. You know I tried to help you when you needed me to, and this is what I get? You could have simply been direct with me. But the lying and now these base demands? That door is now closed.

sorry to hear this I really am
